whatever. I have no interest in arguing the point with you. You asked, I gave my opinion. You refuse to accept it. Fair enough.

probably, since you don't quantify what you mean my your comments. Why do you feel that 'life is turning more nasty and brutal'? In what way are people not taking care of themselves? And what 'burdens' do you face because of this? A little more info might solicit a few more comments.

even the 'tolerant' ones can't help but forward that cute little e-mail about how 'Murika is going to Hell in a handbasket because the little Jewish kid, the atheist kid, and everyone else isn't forced to join their teacher in a daily devotional prayer. It's the annoying "You can't take Christ out of Christmas" campaign. The constant assertions that this is a Christian nation, and it always has been. "God Bless America (and our soldiers)". And the near-constant invitations to just 'come visit our church'. At least the vocal ones are easy to avoid. It's the seemingly harmless acts by people who consider themselves tolerant that are so insidious. And you all don't even seem notice you're doing it.

Business hasn't made it "nearly impossibly for citizens to have children ", they've simply been hostile to FEMALE citizens having children AND having jobs. If you'll remember, it's only been in the last 30 years or so that women have entered the workforce in any great number. Business is slow to change practices that have worked for decades (if not centuries!). Men have a favored status because, historically, children have been the responsibility of the woman. Men seldom/never had to leave work early to pick the kid up at school, or take them to the doctor, or stay home when they were sick... Now that women are IN the workforce, things will change. Slowly, perhaps almost imperceptably, but they WILL change...eventually. It's a learning curve and it'll take a while for family-friendly practices to prove their financial worth.

Since 'Yo' is one of the traditional responses to military roll call, I'd guess it began there. Many in our African-American communities have used military service to escape poverty or street violence. Replying 'Yo' when someone calls your name becomes ingrained whether it's your sergeant hollering or your buddy from the 'hood.

And how many times have we women been called 'dyke' or 'lezzie' for not panting with desire at every guy that hits on us? (And if we did, wouldn't that make us 'sluts' and 'skanks'?) SOME females, like SOME males, simply cannot believe that they aren't gods gift to the opposite sex. Because being turned down insults their sense of worth they lash out by impugning the other's sexuality.

puritanism, plain and simple. The idea that a person by nature was wholly sinful and could achieve good only by severe and unremitting self-discipline. (Which, I suppose, *is* directly related to Pauls flesh v. spririt philosophy) Also in play is the fundamentalist beliefs that sex is for procreation and only acceptable between a husband and wife. Or, more succinctly, sex is fun and anything that's fun MUST be sinful and a moral wrong.

The placards are to ensure that there is parking close enough for those who need special consideration, not as a membership card to some fraternity. My neice has limited mobility and does not drive. Usually I or one of her friends will give her a ride to wherever she needs to go. By your criteria, she would have to wait in the car while we went in to do her shopping! Rediculous!

wrong. To be illegal, there has to be a law prohibiting the action. The indigenous Americans didn't have ANY laws regarding immigration, therefore the migration of Europeans to the New World was indeed 'legal' migration.

Are you sure that the teen DIDN'T have a disability? My 22-yr-old neice has an medical issue that makes it impossible for her to walk or stand for more than ten or fifteen minutes at a time. Any longer and she gets severe shooting pains in her muscles. She doesn't LOOK disabled and she CAN walk just fine, not for long and not very far but unless you knew her you wouldn't think she had an issue. Is it possible that the teen you saw might have the same disability? And the reason that the trio walked out smiling and laughing is becuase they were in a good mood and not because they were delighted at having "fooled" people? Not all disabilities or debilitations are visible.

true enough. Human beings DO seem to have dispersed from the African continent. Then they began to devolop what we now consider 'racial characteristics' in response to their new (and diverse) environments. These ancient adaptations are what most people use to define race, thus a person with light skin can be assumed to come from the population of humans that dispersed to Europe and the north. Those with epicanthic folds and yellowish skin have forefathers who went east from Africa, etc etc etc. It is undeniable that Kandice's negroid heritage comes from the African population just as her caucasoid traits come from the European group. Her classmates can see that even if she denies it.

When I moved to the East Coast from the Mountain West, I lost count of how many curious folks asked whether we still had saloons, gun-totin' cowboys, and yes, electricity and indoor bathrooms. It seems like Geography and Social Studies are the poor bastard step children of 'a good education'.

don't believe me? Ask your doctor next time you see him/her. And I'll point out to you that you never actually said it WAS 'a waste of time'. What you DID say (and I quote) is "there is no benefit to sitting". I posted with factual medical information showing that there is indeed some 'benefit' to it. If you want to be a jerk about it, I guess that's just who you are.

Why does everything that's pretty have to come down to sex?! Sure, plain cotton does the job but satin does too, so what makes the one 'sexy' and the other one acceptable? The cut's the same, so the only difference is the material it's made out of. The kid sure isn't thinking 'Wow, that's HOT!", those thoughts are all YOU. The point is that satin underwear is pretty. Case closed. Do little girls NEED pretty underwear? No more than they "need" pretty dresses, pretty blouses, and pretty barrettes for their hair. I suppose you put your kid in prairie dresses and plain cotton?
