Well, Christian, I see that you say you call America home, but don't claim to be American. I also note that you confuse nationality with ethnicity. No matter how the hispanics pine to be seen as victims of civil rights violations, the fact is that the ones we want to deport ARE CRIMINALS!!!! Lawbreakers who cheat the immigration system, broke into our country, stole or purchased someone else's identity, work in unsafe environments and accept wages that undercut legal workers. They ignore traffic laws, insurance laws, zoning laws, business licensce laws, basic sanitation and harrass women on the street. Now...if they wanted to be Americans they COULD apply like every other hopeful immigrant. But that's not what illegal immigrants from Mexico want. They want to reap the rewards that hard-working dedicated Americans demanded, instead of they themselves staying home and forcing their own government to meet the demands of its own people. They don't want to fix their own proverbial house but they're more than willing to break into ours and take anything they can get away with. And just to be clear...we're talking about Mexicans and NOT Latino/Hispanic Americans. You can try to spin it into some kind of racist thing, but if there's one thing it's NOT is race-based. Nationalist? Maybe so. But really, if they don't have permission to be here, why SHOULDN'T we deport the liars?

But if it's seen as 'formal,' why do they use the more IN-formal first name? I could understand your argument if they said 'Miss Anderson' or 'Miss Dawson,' etc, but like the original questioner, I also find it odd that 'Miss Debbie' would be considered appropriate for a woman who is neither a young miss nor an older 'Miss-uz'

I can't answer why men pass gas, but I can answer for myself as a woman. Flatulence is a natural by-product of digestion. Women do in fact pass gas, but politeness dictates that one doesn't do so in company. For my part, if I feel like I need to do so, I try to excuse myself and go to the bathroom. That way, I don't subject my companions (or innocent bystanders) to the odor. It's simply a matter of good manners, in my opinion.

mostly it was (like most stupid laws) a mixture of racism and religeon that got it outlawed. In the early 1900 the U.S. was inundated with laborers from Mexico. One of the main differences between poor Anglo workers and poor Mexican workers was that the Mexicans were more likely to smoke marijuana. That was one point against it. But that's not what got the government so p.o'd. It was actually the Mormons that got the ball rolling. They sent some folks down south of the border and when they came back, they brought a liking for marijuana. Of course the puritanical church elders couldn't have their folks out there getting happy on the weed any more than they could allow them to drink or smoke. So the state of Utah outlawed it. Other states soon followed. That's how marijuana, one of the most innocuous of intoxicants, fell prey to moralists and racists.

by being both female and African American. There are a lot of people out there still under the illusions that most women and people of color got into college, got the good job, the promotion, etc.etc. simply because of 'affirmative action'. They see your gender and your skin color and assume that you probably aren't as qualified as the white guy. That you probably only got into college because you're black. You only got the job because they needed to shiney up their diversity credentials... This may not be the right explaination. The other posters may be correct on any of their guesses. But as a woman in a mostly male-dominated technical feild, I know the dismissive glance, the unspoken assumption that somehow I slept my way through college, or simply the feeling of disrespect engendered by work assignments. Just shrug, do better work than the guys and eventually they'll realize what a gem they have. My company did...eventually.

perhaps to goths, all preppys seem to come from the same cookie-cutter too. If you go by population, the number of people self-identified as 'goth' is indeed miniscule. If you are one of the red fish in a shool of blue fish... And maybe you mis-understand them. They aren't necessarily trying to be different from other goths, just different from the main-stream socially expected (and accepted) norm.

First one must ask, exactly what she meant by 'fulfill her sexually' and what you think a 'man' is. If her 'fulfillment' is dependent upon the endowment of her partner, then I feel very sorry for her. My own husband is not exactly huge but he is quite able to bring me to orgasm. Yeah, sometimes I wish there was more to work with, but sex isn't just about the act itself especially in a marriage. It's about affection and intimacy as well as the fun stuff. I'm sure you've heard all the advice about prolonged foreplay, erogenous zones, and the like. Those are some of the tricks my husband uses that really rev my engine. Part of that is because intercourse is not the sum and total of our sex life. Perhaps a better question would be why a concerned, loving, creative partner isn't enough to 'satisfy' this woman. Have you ever thought that maybe it isn't you?

It has absolutely nothing to do with sexual stimulation. It's more like tapping your foot, drumming your fingers or any other personal fidget. Swinging (or pivoting) one's foot, or bouncing one's leg, also facilitates blood circulation to the lower leg, thus preventing the dreaded tingling of a foot that's 'fallen asleep.'

As I understand it, in the beginning some Jews accepted Jesus as God's son and some didn't. The ones who did became 'Christian Jews' and blamed the non-believing Jews for Jesus' execution. You could probably start with Pope Clement I, who publicly blamed Jews for Nero's persecution of Christians. The Christian doctrine of 'love thy neighbor' wasn't fashionable yet, so we have quite a few of the Christian fathers leading the way. St. Justin the Martyr, St. Hippolytus, St. Gregory, most of the Popes from Clement I through Benedict XIV and beyond. Even today distrust and hatred are preached by church leaders like Jerry Falwell, who said that the Anti-Christ is alive and a Jewish male, to Pat Robertson, who believes Communism is a Jewish-German construct. On a 'cultural' note, there was a female saint (her name eludes me) who wrote 'The Dolorous Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ' that was completely anti-Semitic. Mel Gibson made a movie based on her meditations.

To me, it wasn't stupidity that the southern accent conveyed, it was laziness. After all, how much work does it take to add that 'g' on the end of 'going' (instead of 'goin') for example. You call it warmer, more congenial, etc. but to a lot of people, it sounds lazy, un-educated, and, well...hick. Of course, I was pretty young when I thought that and didn't realize that a relaxed style could hide a rapier wit. Didn't learn that until I moved to Atlanta and actually met some southern folks.

Excuse me, but what is the 'obvious' answer if the suburban female is white? That she's a racist? That's a pretty loaded assumption, considering that you don't even know what his attitude, pick-up lines, etc are. Sheesh. Just because someone is white doesn't mean that they're racist, you know. Maybe his hygeine could use some work, maybe he comes accross as a misogynist, maybe he seems uneducated, maybe he looks sloppy... There're a thousand and one reasons that may apply, and only one of them is racism. So what is so 'obvious' about it?
