My light mother referred to me as a light skin heffa. I am offended when these music videos show nothing but light-skinned women with long hair, even though that’s what I am. My friends laugh when they find out I am offended at this. But damn, I’m a black woman, and I know these videos are equating white-looking black women with white beauty. And that p***ses me off. I accept no privileges for light skin. When white folks try to act like that’s where they are coming from, I check them. It’s not right.

As a Black woman, I am attracted to Black men. The characteristics that black men have is what does it for me. I do see that there are some white men who have appealing features i.e. Brad, Eminem, Joey Lawrence, but for me, there is absolutely no physical attraction there. I would be more attracted to your average black man than to the ‘finest’ white boy. So your tastes are fine, and thank you for explaining it in a non-derogatory manner. Can you say WHY you prefer slimmer bodies and features? I’ve never understood that.
