I fail to see the threat of pornography. No credible research has linked the viewing of it to violence, deviant behavior, divorce or anything sinister. A lot of politically motivated research has tried to make those links, but the conclusions are so pre-ordained in those studies that it's hard to take them seriously.

Sick behavior has roots far deeper than images on a piece of paper or screen. If your husband still treats you with respect and behaves the way you expect and want him to, I wouldn't be threatened by it.

Mine gets oily if I don't wash it, and then it just feels gross and my head itches. So I wash it every day.

Anyone who's viciously assaulted will naturally be wary from that point on -- particularly when, in your case, it was your first date. I'd be stunned if you WEREN'T frightened of men. That said, I'm not so sure the experience would change your sexual orientation. You may have been bixexual/lesbian, anyway. I'd suggest you get some counseling to sort this out.

I don't know any grown person who goes to sleep that early and very few who wake up that early. Two hundred years ago, Benjamin Franklin said, 'Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise,' but I don't think anyone lives by that anymore. I go to sleep around midnight and get up at 6:30 a.m. (later on weekends). As for your hours, I hope you nap during the day!

Do you really feel every person in an entire region is rich, extravagently educated and snobbish? If that's the case, who were all those people in my public schools - Canadians? Where do the homeless people in Eastern cities come from - Montana? Do the jobless people in Rust Belt cities all come from Alabama? I think your assumption could have been avoided if you had ventured off Capitol Hill while in Washington. Your assumptions show an inability to observe what's right in front of you. I grew up in the Northeast, and I sure wish I had access to all the things you insist I do. That would be nice. But it ain't true. Not one of your assumptions has even a whiff of truth to it.

Two more things to think about: Although Washington is in the East, the power structure is not. The president, the two white men running to replace him and the majority leaders of the House and the Senate all are from the South and West. When you complain about injustice, look in your own back yard. Secondly, the most class-conscious, elitist, private-school-educated city I've lived in (and I've lived in several around the country and overseas) was New Orleans, buried deep in the South.

Wouldn't it be great if men and women had the same level of sexual desire at the same time? It's my experience, however, that they don't. I've always wanted it more, and that's still the case, even though my wife and I are 36, which should put her at her so-called sexual peak.

That age limit is left over from when this was a mostly rural country. The thinking was that a vehicle -- such as a tractor or a pickup -- was analogous to a horse, and teenagers would need to drive to help on the farm. These days, I think 18 would be sufficient. Setting the age at 25 isn't realistic in an age when a car is necessary most places to commute or shop.

I've marveled at the same thing when I've visited my brother, who lives in Israel, and watched Israelis locally (a good number of Israeli immigrants live around here). I think it's a reaction to being under constant attack as a nation, and it's also the result of a culture that prizes macho aggression. I love Israel and generally find Israelis charming, but after a while their in-your-face nature makes me want to have a powerful drink in a quiet room.

Things like Miss Black America and Black Student Unions came about because most clubs, organizations, contests, sports leagues and the rest of society excluded non-whites. When blacks and Hispanics and Jews and gay people and women are welcome in every corner of society, I am sure organizations that cater to these and other groups will start to disappear.

I've worked for newspapers for 15 years, and the main effect of the Internet is to give journalists more options: More places to work and, for those of us who want to stay in newspapers, more sources of information and people. It's been a terrific tool. In my daily job, the only difference is that I might write an earlier version of a story for our web site on a breaking story before I do one for the next day's paper. I'm not sure that future journalists will need any different training. The same rules apply with information from the Internet as from any other source - beware of the motivation behind what you find, make sure it's accurate and doublecheck what you can. As far as I'm concerned, the Internet is nothing but a blessing for journalism. The more information outlets, the better.

It's not a beaker but a foam rubber thing that insulates the bottle. It keeps the beer cold and your fingers warm.

You don't have to be black to be offended by a flag that encouraged people to try to found a nation based on bigotry. For those who find it important to express pride in regional heritage, there are ways to do it, I'm sure, without relying on a symbol of oppression.

That commissioner was fired, and that should be a comment on the acceptability of his views, even in New York, where the commissioner is appointed more to serve the mayor's political needs than the needs of students or parents.

Perfection is unrealistic. It doesn't exist in women, men or almost anything. That said, the things important to me in a woman are a sense of humor, an independent spirit, boatloads of affection and warmth, intelligence, confidence, wit and passion for something that doesn't involve me. I want someone who's happy being herself and doesn't need me to complete a picture; in other words, someone who wants me more than needs me. At the same time, I want someone who loves me the way I am and lets me know it.
