I'd like to know why men pass gas but women rarely do. How come?

ROFLMFAO... Women pass gas all the time, laddy. We just aren't socially conditioned to make a contest out of who can fart the loudest - just the opposite, in fact - so we tend to do it quietly.

Oh, we women do pass gas, but we're just more discreet about it in general.

We do, we just make sure we are alone and we do it quietly and without 'pride'. If we are in a crowd, we might cough and toot at the same time to mask the 'hoot' sound that might come, then walk away from the smell that might be there.

I think women generally wait until others aren't around or head for the bathroom. If that won't work, just try to make them 'quiet.' It's not socially acceptable for women like it is for men to burp, pass gas, or spit.

Men and women pass gas equally often, but men's farts have more volume of gas. Women's farts are said to contain more of the chemical that smells bad.

Actually, scientifically speaking, 'The average number, for both men and women, is around 10 to 15 times a day - give or take a few toots. However, according to Dr. Michael Levitt, the world's leading scientist in the field of flatulence, female gas contains more hydrogen sulfide and can therefore be smellier.' So it's not so much a physical thing, women pass gas to, but are taught that it isn't socially acceptable (like picking your nose) in public. Just like how men like to burp as loudly as possible or are more physically aggressive with each other, it's a matter of what is socially accepted as normal.

It's not that we rarely pass gas, it's that we rarely make a production of passing gas the way men do. I think girls have been brought up to think that it's rude, gross, and generally unladylike. As a result, we do it quietly and, if possible, remove ourselves from social situations before doing so by going to the bathroom (or any other unoccupied room), going to another aisle in the store, etc.

Men pass gas more than girls for the simple fact that it is embarassing, especially in public. Personally, I never did this in front of any of my boyfriends and have yet to do so. No matter what any girl says, we pass gas as much as men do but we just don't do it in public.

Women probably pass gas just as frequently as men, but we just don't witness it because it is not as socially exceptable for a woman to pass gas in public. Our culture is the largest influence on human behavior. One of the American culture's norms, is that females have a characteristic of being dainty or beautiful. If a woman passes gas, this is an act that contridicts this norm and therefore is frowned upon in our society. Our media especially contributes to this norm because in movies and t.v. shows, comedy gags will always show the male farting, rather than a female. This helps further this social norm. In short it would be violating a culture norm if a female passed gas with a witness around. (especially male witness)

This isn't true at all. Most women just won't admit they do! My boss's daughter has been married for seven years and had two children, yet has never farted infront of her husband or had a bowel movement while he was awake or home. I think this is really bizarre and probably unhealthy, personally. But women pass gas as much as men do, they just either hide it or say they don't.

Women do pass gas. We're just a bit more discrete about it. We don't do it in front of other people because we view it as inappropriate. But everyone does it, even the most refined woman in the world lets one rip when she's alone.
