CourtneyMemberIn January I went to Nicaragua in Central America and have become very interested in Social justice. Southern countries are not the least productive. See where your clothes are made, where does your coffee come from? How about your bananas, strawberries, coconuts? Most of these come from southern ‘third-world’ countries. The reason they are so poor is because of explotation of wealthier nations. They are not unproductive but very productive. Our economy would be ruined if countries such as Nicaragua and Colombia did not exist.

CourtneyMemberI’m not an expert on the situation bue I speculate that it goes to the question of Israel. Jews, Muslims, and Christians all claim Israel as a holy place. Christians are not so adament about attaining Israel as are Jewish people and Muslims. I’ve talked to some Israel Muslims online and one person told me about how they hated the Jewish people because the Jewish people were attacking the Muslims. I’m sure there is much violence on both parts. Because Muslims and Jews in America are very attached to the situation in Israel I’m sure the discrimination that takes place there takes place here. Hope this helps. God Bless, Courtney

CourtneyMemberI have had problems with people asking me what culture I am. I feel that I have to go into a long explanation about my cultural identity. For me my race is more of a cultural thing then a colour/physical thing. See, biologically I’m Native American on my biological father’s side, and then on my Mother’s side I’m British, English, Scottish, Irish that is. I celebrate these cultures both equally. However, when I was 4 I was adopted by my Dad, now, (my biological mother is still my Mommy). My Dad is German and Ukranian. Although I don’t have the features of a German or Ukranian I celebrate the culture and rigt now I am grieved at what is happening in the Ukraine. I feel that if someone asks me on a job application what race I am I don’t want to respond and I don’t. It doesn’t matter what race I am when applying for a job.

CourtneyMemberI agree that there may seem to be more discrimination of whites against blacks. However, Blacks are not the only people who have a history of discrimination. As a Native American I am discriminated against even though I look white. Some people say that Native Americans are nothing but drunks and that they are all stupid. This is because of past and present discrimination. My people have been through similar trials as black people. They were assimilated, murdered, their culture was destroyed and their language almost lost. Worst of all their land was taken away. Discrimination against Native Americans continue to this day. Native Americans if they wish to live amongst their people and receive the supposed reparations from the government are forced to live on reservations. The problem with reservations is that the schools only go to Grade 6, if a young person wants to go beyond Grade 6 they have to leave the reservation and be shunned by their people. (Fortunately I have had the opportunity to go to Univeristy as my Grandfather sold his rights card and I have to pay for university, which I have worked very hard to get to.) This is probably the most systematic racism I have seen. Black people have the opportunity to go to high school, university and post-graduate studies. They should relish in the attention of anti-racism that is rampant in our society. Unfortunately, not only black people are discriminated against, racism is both ways. Any race can discriminate against another race, this is also seen in religion. Look at the discrimination against Muslims. Maybe YOU should step outside of yourself and look at the bigger issue here. Blacks aren’t the only people discriminated against.

CourtneyMemberListen here, ecouter a moi. I am from Canada and know what its like to live in a bilingual country. The United States is a bilingual country. It is a right to be able to address people in your native language. Its not a problem with immigration to the States. There are plenty of Americans that are of Spanish descent, California originally belonged to Spain as did lots of other southern States. I know that the Caribbean is a popular place for vacationing. It would be really hard to get around if no one knew English there. Its just common courtesy to recognize that other people speak other languages. Thank you, Merci, Hola, Danke, Hola!

CourtneyMemberI think you might be interested in C.S. Lewis’ book called Mere Christianity. He theorized that all Christians, no matter what denomination should be connected on the basis that they are all Christians. I agree that there are many interpretations of the Bible. But I believe that we should all get together and talk about our different interpretations. I don’t go to church because I don’t believe in denominations, it seperates Christians. Matthew 23:8-14 says ‘But you are not to be called Rabbi, for you have only one Master and you are all brother…Nor are you to be called teacher, for you have on Teacher, the Christ…Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you Hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces.’ My ideal form of Christianity would have no denominations and no leaders, except for God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit. God Bless, Courtney

CourtneyMemberPersonally, as a Native Canadian, Mohawk to be exact, I feel that the most important thing to preserving my culture is religion and the myths related to it. I am very passionate about this subject. As a young child I didn’t know anything about my heritage but as I grew older I realized more and more that my culture has been practically wiped out. My land was taken away from my people, our languages almost died, most of my ancestors were assimilated into Western European ways. My people were murdered and our culture was admonished and diminished to the bare minimum. What can be rescued and revived should be. Thank you for addressing such an important issue in your class. I feel that not a lot of people are aware of the suffering of Native Americans, we are just as stereotyped as African-Americans. And I object to being called an Indian, I am a Native Canadian from Canada, not from India. I wish people could see that.

CourtneyMemberTo be quite honest…I don’t believe that anybody should look to a career of killing other people. Yes I would hold individual respect for each and every person in the military, but I would also look at them as murderers or possible murderers. There is never an excuse to kill. I just want you to know that I do respect troops world wide as individual beings but you’ve got to look at what they are doing to other people. Imagine if an young Iraqi man came up to you and said ‘sorry but my president tells me i have to kill you’ and then shoots you. Its not right. (Imagine Jesus with a Machine Gun) God Bless, Courtney

CourtneyMemberIt may or may not be a conspiracy. I believe what we need to concentrate on is that it has happened and it is rampant. One of the reasons it is rampant is because of Americans, like you or I. Our ignorance of the situation in Africa! There is a lack of treatments for AIDS in Africa because pharmaceutical companies are withholding the medication. This is because Africans are not accepting Genetically Engineered foods. I don’t think that this is just. We shouldn’t worry about how it all started but at how we can end it.

CourtneyMemberThere are certain risks with older mothers. They have a higher chance of giving birth to a baby with mental disabilities. There are however, other options. First ask a doctor what the risks of having a disabled baby is. If you don’t feel ready or able to take care of a disabled child then look into adoption. You can adopt even if you don’t have a spouse or partner. Plus you give a child a loving home, a child that may not have had one before. You can also adopt older children if you wish. It’s a great way to have a child. Trust me, I was adopted!:) God Bless, Courtney

CourtneyMemberPersonally I plan on remaining a virgin for the rest of my life. Not because I’ve given up on sex and guys. I can still date but I won’t go any farther than kissing and I make sure that the guy I’m dating that knows that. I think that the reason people are so sexually active nowadays is because of media and the proportion of sexuality in advertising and popular programs.
