Why do seated women move their legs up and down?

I used to sit crossed legged, but the blood gets trapped in the lower leg and makes it an uncomfortable position, hence the fidgeting. I believe people with varicose veins are advised not to cross their legs when sitting because of this, as the veins struggle to pump blood back up the legs.

when i cross my legs, my bottom knee usually digs into my upper calf and can become uncomfortable. When i move my legs and feet around, it alternates the weight so i can sit more comfortably.

I find myself shaking tables and even cars sometimes with this habbit. My mother did it when I was little, and I hated it. Now that I am older, I guess I have acquired this habbit from her. I also rock myself to sleep with my rhythmic foot at night. It's nothing that I have ever consciously decided to do, it just happens.

It's because our legs go numb when crossed -- usually the top one. Switching them restores circulation.

When you sit cross-legged, the circulation diminishes after a while. You have to move your legs around to keep the blood flowing and stay comfortable. This might involve moving the leg or foot, uncrossing the legs and crossing them in the other direction, etc. It is about comfort, not sexual stimulation.

It is a form of fidgeting, just like drumming your fingers on the table or swirling the ice in your glass. Some of us just find it hard to sit still.

Is everything sex to men? No offense meant, but it's just fidgetting. Very rarely does it mean anything. And, to let you know a little secret, foot-twirling burns something like 250 calories an hour. That's why I twirl my feet when I sit cross-legged. Also, sitting cross-legged isn't exceptionally comfortable for extended periods of time if you don't move your legs.

Probably from boredom, nerves, or discomfort. As far as boredom, it's like twiddling your thumbs or tapping your fingers. We might be nervous and changing positions a lot. Might be discomfort as legs may ache or try to go to sleep when crossed. If it has any deeper connotation to all of this, I don't realize it consciously.

For me it's more of a nervous habit or from boredom. I remember seeing women do it when I was little, and trying it. It really does become a habit that you don't think about.

Speaking only for myself, it's just a figdety thing analogous to tapping your fingers on a desk. I discount a sexual aspect because the behavior doesn't seem specific to the gender or presence of observers. It isn't at all stimulating personally, either.

It's not just women. My brother does it, too, and it drives me crazy when I'm seated at the same table as him. I think it's just a nervous habit - I used to do it all the time before I was diagnosed with (and treated for) an anxiety disorder. Maybe fewer men do it because they're socialized not to display things like nervousness. Incidentally, the jiggling supposedly also boosts your metabolism somewhat - like constant, low-level exercise.

If we could something more out of it, we might do it more. It's just fidgeting.

If other women do this for the same reason I do, it's simply because of tension or stress. If I sit, but I have a lot on my mind, whether or not it's conscious or subconscious, I just can't sit still.

I do it when I'm nervous. I've seen articles in women's magazines that tout it as a lure and I find that seriously difficult to believe. I think most women do it when they're bored or uncomfortable. It's akin to cracking your knuckles or tapping your fingers.

I've read where they can masturbate by just bouncing a leg up and down. This started back when women worked in the sweat shops, manually pumping the sewing machine pedal and simultaneously getting a nice feeling by keeping the thighs together.
