You didn’t call him your husband, so I’m guessing you’re not married. If you don’t agree with marriage for whatever reason, have you tried talking to them? Finding out what it is they don’t like about him? If its just his skin color, then you may need to make a choice: either cut your parents out of your life until they are able to keep their prejudices to themselves or risk your son growing up feeling as if he’s “less” then his grandparents because he’s not white. You can’t change your parents: only they can do that. You can’t make them understand anything if they choose not to understand. You’ve got to set healthy boundaries for the sake of your son: when he is around them, or in the room with you when they’re on the phone, there will be no disparaging of blacks. With that said, maybe

The foreskin should have nothing to do with his ability to achieve an orgasm. I’d suggest a complete physical to find out if there are any medical conditions that might prevent an orgasm. If none exist, then I’d suggest therapy because there is some underlying issue that is preventing him from reaching an orgasm. It could be something as “simple” as performance anxiety to something as complex as childhood sexual abuse. Love and Light, Rev. Shelly

Sex is a private matter. Just as I don’t go around talking about what my wife and I did when we made love the last time, I don’t think it’s appropriate to discuss what you do when you masturbate (unless such discussion is for a medical/therapeutic nature.) I also think it would be disrespectful to my wife for the guy to even WANT to tell me.

in reply to: death rate for young males #22022

And from some of the same reasons: car accidents still claim a lot of youth, especially males. Also drunk driving/driving under the influence. And guns. Drive-by shootings and accidental shootings. We have a lot of young men being killed maimed in the military in the last several years who are quite often not getting the help they deserve or were promised when they signed up. But if car insurance rates are any indication, young men are still dying/becoming maimed at a higher rate than other age groups or women. Although insurance rates for young women are rising… Love and Light, Rev. Shelly

And in many ways still does. He dies his hair black and wears black clothes, although he’s gotten away from the baggy pants with zippers, straps and chains. I think intially, he dressed in black because he liked the way it looked. None of his best friends dressed in goth. He had some anger issues that I’m sure contributed to his dressing the way he did (it ticked off his step-mother, who he does not like). But I think a lot of the anger for other goths is due to how society treats them because of how they dress. Many people look at kids who dress goth as hoodlums. They judge them based on how they dress rather than on who they are, forgetting that they dressed a lot differently than their parents ever dressed as well. Additionally, society places so much emphasis on conformity, but we’r

If you’re brought up to think that wearing hats indoors is rude, then you’ll think it’s rude. If you’re brought up thinking that’s the norm, then that’s the norm. In some cultures, for example, burping at the dinner table is considered a compliment to the cook. An indication of a good meal that was well enjoyed. In American culture, it’s considered rude. Ball caps indoors doesn’t, for the most part, interfere with another’s ability to enjoy their meal or see a movie. Now if it were a cowboy hat, that would be another matter.

And that’s the right to live their life as they see fit according to the beliefs they hold dear. Unfortunately, there are too many people who won’t allow that to happen. With that said, I don’t think that there’s much of a common denominator even among the many classes. What is valuable is like beauty: it’s in the eye of the beholder. Love and Light, Rev. Shelly

Often, the fear has been perpetuated for many generations and is something handed down from one generation to the next. I loved my Pap, but he was as racist as Archie Bunker. That was what he grew up being taught. Although my parents are far less racist than their parents were, and I am far less racist then my parents, that’s not always the case in places where racism is still prevalent, particularly in the South of the US. (Can’t speak for the rest of the world.) For some, racism is the result of experience. If your only experience with a particular race is negative, then you’re going to be racist towards that race. Fear of those who are different from us can also cause racism. Love and Light, Rev. Shelly

then punishes them for doing what they’ve been taught. I agree with you 100%. We’re pushing our kids, even young girls of 5, to “dress sexy” and to “be sexy” and then complain when teenage pregancies start to rise. We’re sending kids mixed messages and as long as parents continue to support the companies who make these things for kids, they’re going to keep doing it. Love and Light, Rev. Shelly

in reply to: Welfare and blacks #22028

Discrimination was legal up until the civil rights movement. “Separate but equal” schools were set up that were anything BUT equal. It was 1968 before blacks were legally allowed to marry whites in 16 states. That’s less than 40 years ago! Discrimination continues even today. If you think of it as a playing field, blacks started out in a hole and whites were (and still are) standing on raised mounds. Welfare is one attempt (and a very ineffective one) at leveling the playing field so that everyone has an equal opportunity to make a good life for themselves. Welfare, however, is a trap and once you get into it, it’s almost impossible to get out. You can’t make enough on welfare to live above the poverty level, and you can’t make enough working without losing the other benefits that welfare

in reply to: Losing an arm or leg #22029

It depends on what you want to do. If you get your hand cut off and you play the clarinet, it may be very difficult to continue to play the clarinet without some major modifications to the clarinet. But if you get your hand cut off and still want to swim, yes, you can still do that. If you get your hand cut off and you want to skydive, yes, you can still do that. Losing a leg/foot is often “easier” than losing a hand because of how much we use our fingers compared to how much we use our toes.

in reply to: Stores have signs for blind people? #22030

According to the Americans with Disabilities Act, seeing eye dogs must be allowed access to wherever their owners are allowed access. The sign is alerting those who see the seeing eye dog in the store that simply because that dog is there doesn’t mean they can being their hunting dog into the store. It’s also showing the stores compliance with the ADA. Love and Light, Rev. Shelly

    in reply to: Dementia #22031

Before the 1900s, people generally didn’t live long enough to develop dementia. They often died of other causes before they could develop dementia. It’s not like there’s been a surge in the numbers of people with dementia due to some external factor like what’s in the foods we eat. It’s more a factor of the longevity increasing steadily since the early 1900s. Love and Light, Rev. Shelly

in reply to: Why treat us deafies with contempt? #22040

There are different degrees of deafness just as their are different degrees of blindness. My grandfather was legally blind but could still see out of a small area. I just went to a performance put on by students who attend a school for the deaf and two of those students could actually hear a little with hearing aids but you had to talk slowly and a bit louder than normal. My guess is that they talk louder, slower and with wider mouth movements in an attempt to allow you to lip read what they’re saying since they don’t know sign language. Most people don’t know that only about 30% of the English language can be lip read and even more don’t know any sign language. Love and Light, Rev. Shelly

in reply to: How do blind people cross the street? #22041

When someone goes blind (or is born blind), the other senses attempt to compensate for the lack of information that the eyes supply. For example, a blind person can “feel” a wall before they walk into it, whereas someone who is sighted but wearing a blindfold would probably walk right into it. A blind person’s sense of hearing is a lot more sensitive than the sighted. They listen for cars coming from the directions of the street they’re trying to cross. Some intersections have bells that ring when it’s safe to cross. Others have seeing eye dogs that know when to cross.
