Because there will always be people (mainly White people) like yourself who perceive themselves to be 'better', 'superior' and 'more deserving of' the American Dream, simply because they are White. And there will always be people like me who will constantly remind you that you are not 'better', 'superior', or 'more deserving' of the American Dream than I am.

The cavalier attitude of men with regard to sex, rape, porn, etc. can be traced back to boyhood. You see, while parents teach girls to value their bodies, to treat their bodies as 'a temple', boys are not taught this. We teach our daughters that they shouldn't allow just any man to enter their vaginas, yet we don't teach boys the importance of not entering just any vagina. We don't teach boys that THEIR bodies are temples as well. We don't teach boys to be discerning as respects the women they choose; instead we slap them on the back for every sexual conquest, tell them that 'boys will be boys', and shove a condom in their hands. The result? These boys will grow up to be men who only view women as a receptable for their semen. They grow up lacking respect and consideration for women. And this manifests itself through the purchase/rental of pornography, the patronizing of strip clubs, and a general hostility and disrespect toward all women. I would imagine that this is why many men do not like women, as people...how can you possibly like women, when you don't even view them as fellow human beings??

I've worked around several races and nationalities, and I'm sorry, but I haven't come across the scents you have. Most of the women I come in contact with usually smell very nice, because they're wearing a nice scent of perfume or cologne. As for myself, I love the scent of cocoa butter, as well as coconut and mango. In fact, The Body Shop, one of the most popular 'scent' stores around, sells a product called 'Body Butter,' a rich moisturizing body cream that comes in many scents, including mango, coconut, sesame, olive, grape, honey and cocoa butter. Incidentally, the cocoa butter and mango are their biggest sellers. So apparently a lot of women - black, white, whatever - like the scent of cocoa butter. This 'different races smell different' nonsense is just another way to promote prejudice and bigotry.

So, Yair K, you think the African American who is wise and authoritative is a sterotype, now do you? The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of American Express, The Chief Executive Officer of Beatrice Foods; The Editor In Chief of Essence Magazine; The Editor In Chief of Black Enterprise Magazine; Marva Collins, Headmaster of a school for Gifted African American children; Dr. Ben Carson, world renowned pediatric neurosurgeon, and a host of lesser known but no less important African American men and women would beg to differ with you.

Ed S, you need to get a life and stop worrying about what African Americans choose to call themselves. I am an African American woman...a Black American of African descent. What I, and other AA's choose to call ourselves is NO concern of yours.

of the treatment of African Americans in this country? Slavery-theft of the home, religion, language and way of life, from a people. Tearing apart the families...selling children away from their parents, to the highest bidder. Women raped and ravaged. Jim Crow-Extremely violent time in African American History-Lynchings were prominent during this time. It was a common occurrence to hang AA men, or 'hunt' them, for sport. Civil Rights Movement-Shootings, lynchings; death was the sentence for a AA trying to vote or fight for equal opportunity The Tuskegee Experiments - African American men allowed to fester in syphilis, while doctors deliberately did NOT treat their illness...instead, they gave these men placebos, and told them it was medicine that would make them well. Most died from the illness. And of course no one took responsibility...Former President Bill Clinton was the ONLY president to ever publicly apologize for these atrocities. Abner Louima, Amadu Diallo, Eleanor Bumpurs, Natasha Jackson, Michael Stewart, Yusef Hawkins, and the countless numbers of African Americans who were slaughtered in this country, and the brothers and sisters who continue to be misused, abused and slaughtered in this country. I don't see myself as a victim, I see myself as an emotionally/physically strong sista...who will not tolerate for one second any abuse or misuse from anyone...and if anyone is foolish enough to step to me that way, that person will feel my wrath.

Can you explain to me exactly what hamhocks has to do with subject at hand? Last time I checked, the subject was butts...not the perceived diet of African Americans. And for the record, African American people are not the only people who eat hamhocks...Italians eat them as well...they just cook them differently than African Americans do. You should also remember that many African Americans do not consume pork, because they are Muslims, and this religion prohibits the consumption of pig, which is considered by Muslims to be a filthy dirty animal. Next time, be careful about attempting to slander an entire race of people. You only serve to make yourself look silly, petty and childish.

in reply to: What’s with blacks and grape soda? #37473
So, Mary, according to you: 'I see the yuppie moms go into the corner store with little kids. The Yuppie kids get stuff like OJ, water, milk, bagels, fruit, or cheerios. The lower class moms buy their kids soda, those Hi-C juice bottles, chips, and all sorts of packaged pastries, cakes etc.' Exactly what the hell do you mean by 'lower class'? Because the moms don't make quite as much money as you?? Has every 'lower class' parent in the neighborhood shopped for these items only in this store? Have you inspected the kitchen cabinets of every single African American family and found 'junk food'??? For YOUR information, I am an African American mother of a nine year old boy who encourages 'healthy eating', and so do many other African American parents. Many of the children of so-called Yuppie (yuppie sounds so ridiculous) parents get allowances, and guess what they're doing with those allowance?? They're eating the very same junk food you claim only 'lower class' and 'minority' kids eat. Here's a newflash for you, Miss racist...CHILDREN, of all walks of life, eat junk food, when they are out of the reach of their parents. It was nothing short of stupid for you take this situation and make it a racial issue. You're a very silly woman. Grow the hell up.

As the mother of a nine year old that I absolutely adore, my greatest wish for him is to graduate college, find a meaningful, yet well paying career and meet a nice African American woman, get married and give me some grandchildren I can bounce on my knee. Having said that, if he came to me and said, 'I'm Gay', I would still absolutely adore him, and I would embrace his life partner.

To all you silly, racist White folks...minorities need to work too, just like you. And don't fool yourselves into thinking that 'less qualified' minorities are being hired...on the contrary, there are many highly educated, bright ambitious AA's entering Corporate America. Face it, what's REALLY scaring you White folks is that these bright, educated, savvy African American people can compete with you. That's your real issue. And more are on the way. My son, 15 years from today, will be one of the best and the brightest...and there isn't a thing you can do about it, but step aside...or get knocked down.

Maggie, judging by your response, it certainly sounds like you've got some issues regarding men of color. Have you ever been accosted by, hit on by, robbed by, threatened by, or raped by a Black Man? If your answer is yes, then I can certainly understand your fears; however, if your answer is no, then I don't understand your 'fear' of Black Men. Do you 'fear' your African American male co-workers? Your mailman, if he is AA? Your neighbor(s)? If any group of people should 'fear' a another group of people, it's African Americans who should be watching their backs against White. Given the mistreatment generations of my people have suffered...slavery, Jim Crow, The Civil Rights movement, the countless lynchings, the rapes, the slaughter and mayhem, the Tuskegee Experiments...it's a miracle we're still standing tall and strong. As a Black woman, I could be cowering at the sight of every White man I see, but unlike YOU, I am intelligent enough not to judge an entire race by the past (and certainly some present) transgressions of SOME. Oh, and trust me...if any man...Black, White, etc. REALLY want to snatch your purse...or worse, he could...cowering in the corner of an elevator clutching your purse is not a deterent.

So many White people are raised to be colorblind? First, let me school you on the term colorblind. I personally find it offensive, especially coming from White people. I am Black. Do not ignore that. Instead, respect my blackness; embrace it, because to embrace me means to embrace my African ancestry. Tell tell me you are colorblind demonstrates to me your refusal to recognize the trials, tribulations and triumphs of those of African descent. African American people should NOT be fooled by the 'I'm colorblind' rhetoric. When dealing with White people, I don't look past their 'whiteness', because it is as much a part of him/her as hair color, eye color and overall character. Lastly, what you must have meant to say is that White people are raised to be non-racist, which is the biggest I've heard regarding race relations. If this was true, Amadu Diallo would still be alive, Abner Louima would still have a spleen, and cemetaries across the U.S. wouldn't be full of the remains of African American people, who were slaughtered for one reason and one reason only: the color of their skin.

What is nagging to you? If you drop your dirty underwear in the middle of the bedroom floor and your wife asks you to pick them up, is that nagging? Sounds like you're a man who resents taking any direction/advice from a woman. You're not the first man with such an attitude, you won't be the last.

Black men do not have a monopoly on large penises. Any man of any race or ethnicity can be well-endowed; likewise, any man of any race or ethnicity can be average or smaller than average. This stereotype is an ugly one, started by white people and continued by silly black men who define their manhood by the size of their penises. Ken, let me tell you a secret that will guarantee your success as a lover: learn the fine art of foreplay. Learn the erogenous zones of a woman. Learn the fine art of touching, of kissing, of caressing. Foreplay is the most important part of lovemaking, not the ability to rupture a woman's vagina with the size of your penis. There is something else you need to understand, Ken: the women you're currently dating are hoochies and hos, not so much because they've been sexually active with several partners, but because they discuss it with you. A real woman does not reveal her sexual experience to a man she's just getting to know. She does not sit around discussing the penis size of the men she's been with.

Your penis size isn't the issue, it's your choice of women. Look for a 'quality' woman, a woman with some class and style. One who'll love and respect you for who you are, not how big your penis is. And black men should really be insulted by, and fed up with, this silliness.

It is ridiculous to blame McDonald's and other fast-food places for children's obesity. Parents are responsible for what their children are eating. And I understand that the McDonald's lawsuit was thrown out. Good!
