Just as tragic as female rape victims. A bigger problem with rape of males, though, is that they are so used to the whole machismo thing that they aren’t as likely to come out and get help for it. Not that there is any more or less humiliation involved, but less support.

I am not a Christian and can’t accurately speak for all of them, but from what I know they usually believe that before Christ came, the ideas of the Jews (who follow/ed the same God) were the truth. As for not knowing Jesus, there are those who think that only those who have heard of Jesus go to Hell if they reject him. One I met, however, insisted that everybody -will- have a choice before they die. She never did explain to me the case with abortion, infant death, child death, etc… It also shows that some of them think the world is a lot smaller than it is. There are probably people who are retirement age who have never heard of Jesus!

First, not all pagans follow the same holidays. I, for one example, celebrate cultural holidays instead (mostly Christian) as well as the sabbats. Wiccans and others who celebrate the eight sabbats usually practice them at the official solstices, equinoxes, and mid-points in their area. So while those of us up here in the Northern Hemisphere have just finished Yule, people down in the Southern Hemisphere just finished Midsummer (the summer solstice). Sometimes there aren’t really obvious seasonal changes, but the official dates are still observed.

It’s all a matter of cultural norms. There’s nothing inherently wrong or disgusting with being uncircumsized, but because it’s been done so much in this country it’s just ‘weird’ not to be circumsized. There’s also the whole false myth that you get junk trapped in the foreskin, which perpetuates the whole thing.

in reply to: Cheeseburgers not Kosher? #43419

The reason is that, according to Jewish law, you should not eat the flesh of an animal with its mother’s milk. According to a Jew I worked with, it is basically a ‘safety procedure,’ that cheese just might be made with the milk of the animal you are eating! From what I understand, this had to do with an old pagan ritual that they were trying to avoid, but I can’t be positive. There are also restrictions on what kinds of flesh you can eat. Mammals must have split hooves and chew cuds and can’t have been fed animal protein. Fish (all seafood?) need to have fins and scales. You can only eat certain poultry and its eggs. More on the meat and dairy thing… there are some foods that are ‘parve,’ they’re kind of kosher neutral… they can be eaten with dairy. This includes fish and eggs. Dairy must come from Kosher animals. A lot of Kosher rules come from causing an animal the least suffering possible and draining it of blood, they also forbid eating animals that are unclean (Apparently because they have something weird about them… a fish without scales? Come on!) It’s kind of vegetarianism by proxy, actually, an animal that eats other animals isn’t clean and shouldn’t be eaten by you. I think originally all meat was banned, so eating animals that aren’t meat eaters was kind of the next best thing when people complained.

My mother is Catholic, my father Lutheran. They choose to raise me Catholic because my mother is far more devout than my father is. My father’s religion, I think, is more a mask that he hasn’t taken off. So it was logical to raise us in Catholicism.

This is coming from a pagan who does call his Gods ‘the devil.’ From a Christian perspective, you -are- worshiping Satan. Because every god and goddess that isn’t the Christian God is called Satan, it doesn’t matter who they are to -you,- to a Christian they are the devil. But really, don’t worry about it! ‘Devil’ is just a name anyway, it’s the guy behind the name that counts.

How about a term for women who are such feminazis they refer to it as ‘kissing up to the patriarchal/male establishment?’

When I was a Wiccan, my ceremony was very close to a Catholic mass, only shorter and by myself. This was because I was raised a Catholic, and it was what I knew. Wiccans believe in a God and a Goddess, with every god being a part of their God, every goddess being a part of their Goddess. For some people the Christian God isn’t included (which I think makes no sense, personally). They recognize these two deities in their ceremonies, as well as the elements air, water, fire, and earth.

Depends, are you considering the transsexuals to be the gender they consider themselves to be? If they act and dress like women, and consider themselves women, then why not consider them women? It doesn’t make you gay, it means you are attracted to women who used to be men.

Handfasting can go either way. As an actual handfasting, they generally only last for a year and a day, for the bride and groom to get used to married life, and they are not legally done. There are permanent handfastings that can be done legally by a minister, but as far as I’m concerned they’re just ‘marriages.’ It’s up to the people involved, though.

I don’t know if they accuse each other of not being Hindu, but there are different ways of practicing Hinduism. Some are markedly different from the others, one group does pretty much everything that most Hindu groups consider horribly wrong (they’re the ones that cover themselves with cremation ashes, if you’ve ever heard of them).

All of them. It’s generally recognized as a Christian Denomination, but many Unitarians follow other gods. For example, there are Unitarian pagans (I think it’s the CUUPS?)

It’s not lesbianism the men are fascinated with. It’s the idea of getting with two women. Two normal-looking non-supermodel lesbians having sex would not turn on the average guy, especially if they take on the whole ‘butch dyke’ look. And seriously, gay men are treated the same way sometimes. I mean, look up ‘yaoi’ in a search engine and see how many fangirls are screaming how adorable it is. It’s just not as open to the public.

Those Chinese Crested dogs are considered the world’s ugliest dogs, yet they compare to other dogs the same way we compare to other primates. Natural body hair is perfectly fine.
