In the Torah (Five books of Moses in the Old Testament), according to the law, a person who kills a pregnant woman is responsible only for killing the mother, not the fetus. Just Curious

I can’t speak for others, but I often fantasize about a guy I’m attracted to. I have to like his personality. If he’s a handsome jerk, it doesn’t work for m. Also, it has to be somebody I know, not a movie star. I also have some sexual fantasies about sexual activities that turn me on, but I wouldn’t necessarily want to do them in real life. Sometimes I use internet porn, but not that often. Sometimes even gay male porn! Just Curious

Probably because you come from a family where you were not treated with dignity and affection. If you were ignored, neglected or treated badly, that’s normal for you. YOu may need counseling or self help groups to develop enough self-esteem to believe you deserve someone who’s nice to you and to feel comfortable enough with yourself to know that it’s better to be alone for awhile than in a lousy relationship Just Curious

If you were adopted, ask your adoptive parents what agency they got you from. Go there and see what there policy is on finding biological parents. Some don’t want to be found because they feel guilty Just Curious

If that’s your biggest problem, you’re one lucky girl. YOu’re right, nobody’s perfect. I hope you’re old enough now to realize that personality matters most and keeping your appearance clean, neat and as attractive as you reasonably can without going to ridiculous extremes. Just Curious

I live in a racially diverse community. There does seem to be a less racial tension. The election of Obama is highly symbolic. I’m white and I voted on issues, not color, as did a vast number of Americans. Isn’t that indicative of a “color-blind” society? There’s a public radio show called “News & Notes” which deals with issues concerning blacks and other people of color. Although I find it a pretty intelligent show, I was taken aback to hear one of the recent broadcasts cautioning listeners not to assume that the election of Obama means we are in a post-racial era. I’m not naive, but let’s not stir things up. There will always be racists and other bigots, but I get tired of hearing blacks scream, “it’s racial” to explain or justify any disagreement or problem between a b

I had the same problem. I graduated with honors from a very highly regarded university. Due to my father’s illness years ago, I chose to do a lot of temp work as a secretary and medical secretary, including executive secretary since my typing was 85wpm. My bosses didn’t treat me like an idiot, but I was embarassed to tell my ntellectual friends what I did. Some of my bosses even appreciated my degree in English and asked me to compose their letters. I felt good about this, though was not rewarded extra for these skills. If you enjoy your work and are paid well, I don’t know what to say. If, like myself, you find the work not intellectually challenging, think about a career change. Just Curious

Good luck pursuing that idea. JUdging the “performance” of a pres. would be a political joke, depending on the prevailing party in Congress. The pres. is performing a very important job (don’t get me started on the Bush administration) and deserves compensation. I feel the same way you do about his “room and board” and expense account, but those are perqs. While I might not agree, I believe the argument is that since many of our presidents have legal and/or business skills that would allow them to earn huge salaries & perqs in private business, we should pay them well and give great benefits; otherwise, only the indepently wealthy will be able to serve. Nobody goes into the presidency for the money. It’s the power and, hopefully, the desire to improve the lives of Americans.

Assess what you’re good at and enjoy (or pay a job counselor to do that with tests, interviews, etc.), get VERY good at it and pursue it. Just Curious

Apparently, you’re out of date. Check out Opera Digest and other Opera mags or websites. There are a number of slender singers – male and female. True, some are still fat, but aren’t we all in AMerica? Just Curious

WE’ve become a litigious society, . 1. When it comes to some problems/conflicts, I suspect a lot of people don’t have the confidence or interpersonal skills to confront the other person, so they hire a lawyer as intermediary. 2. Unfortunately, there are a lot of sleazy lawyers who work on a contingency basis encouraging people to sue others. Since it’s not costing the client anything unless they win, they have nothing to lose. What I don’t understand is why judges don’t throw out frivolous cases more often. Can anyone answer that one? Just Curious

My uncle was a smoker and died from lung cancer at age 42; my father was a smoker and died from lung cancer in his 60’s. It’s a horrible way to go. The pain is intense and cannot be relieved by ANY medication, even morphine. Many many medical studies have shown a link between smoking and lung cancer, plus other forms of tobacco use and cancers of the throat, mouth, tongue, etc. There’s no guarantee, but it’s stupid to take a chance and there are many other ugly diseases associated with cancer, plus – many women don’t want to kiss or be intimate with yucky tobacco breath smokers. It’s much harder to quit smoking when you’ve done it, so don’t start! It’s not cool! Just Curious

The confederate flag is equated with slavery by many blacks and northerners since the southern confederacy fought the north in the Civil War. Those who cherish the confederate flag don’t seem to accept that the confederacy lost the civil war and accept the implications of that. Just Curious

I’m not sure what you find annoying about the phrase “good for you”. In what context have you heard it used? When it’s used sarcastically, yes, it’s annoying. However, if somebody is complimenting you on a job well done and they say, “good for you”, it just means “I’m proud of you” or “You go, girl”. Just Curious
