Do you read the news? There’s a major drug war going on in Mexico and my relatives there have warned us not to come visit. Unless you’re in a resort hotel with security you’re likely to be a kidnapping target. Americans are perceived as wealthy and willing to pay large ransoms. Either be safe and spend the money to do it right or stay home (or find somewhere else to go on vacation).

It was “white flight” of the middle class from these areas and then the failure of the manufacturing sector in the U.S. that turned our downtowns into ghettos. Many blacks stay in the inner city because they lack the resources to move and/or because they fear they would be targeted for their race if they moved to the suburbs or rural towns.

Also these somewhat African looking sari type wraps. I love the look of a guy in a skirt with engineer boots or Doc Martens. You do see it in coastal cities in the States but there’s a strange swath of absurd “conservatism” that runs through the middle of the US. Most educated, enlightened people don’t flinch at the sight of a guy in a kilt. You do certainly see this in Scotland even to this day.

It’s a carry down from Chinese foot binding and all the same principals apply. Heels or bound feet force women to walk with their butts sticking out, it allegedly tightens the vaginal muscles and, most obviously, puts women in the position where they need to rely on a man. Within the litany of painful and dangerous things women do to appeal to mean, this is mild. As my friend says, “do guys have any idea how much work it takes to look ‘natural”?

It might affect women more than men but looking back I think being too cute probably made things more difficult for me at times. Socially speaking it’s somewhat the same in that when a man likes the way a woman looks he will rarely delve much deeper into her psyche to find out if he likes her personality. Men also expect that a pretty woman is a more passive, sexually available and less challenging partner. There are many advantages to outgrowing that hot phase.

Now that those anchor babies are teens and young adults they do nothing but bitch about this country. I would ask them the same question, “would you rather be living in Mexico?”. But to do so is considered racist. They don’t seem to acknowledge that many of Mexico’s problems are due to the corruption of the Mexican government and not every ill in the world was caused by the United States, the country that gave them their free education, standard of living, et al.

Her relationships would be much better if she COULD learn to suppress some of her overt emotion. So I think there’s a fine line between Vulcan and out of control that we all need to learn to walk. It’s also cultural. Some cultures accept hysteria as enthusiasm (wailing at funerals, uvulating at weddings, etc.) while others find it frightening and consider it mental illness to behave this way.

They know that to make those commitments will guarantee a life of financial struggle. Back in the days of job security, assured healthcare and pension, decent public schools, affordable college tuition one didn’t have to make such huge sacrifices in order to live a family life. My local paper just did a study that showed it costs 127K per year in our city for a family of four to live a “middle class” life. Granted this is an expensive city bit things are tight all over. No wonder the birthrate is falling dramatically amongst the educated classes.

If the fetus is viable (past about 30 weeks) then one could make the argument that it could have survived minus the criminal act and pursue a prosecution. FYI, only in extreme cases are women allowed to abort a fetus that late in the game. So your argument isn’t really legally relevant. No one has ever been prosecuted for the death of a first trimester fetus, which is when most abortions take place. Later term abortions are almost always related to the health of the mother or the fetus, and only a heartless animal would suggest that those shouldn’t be available.

Informed African-Americans realize that it’s the legacy of Jim Crow, inequities in lending practices and the underfunding of inner city schools that have created such mass poverty (and done do intentionally).
