Sheri R.ParticipantI would be worried. 10-year-old boys are coming into their sexual maturity soon and they don’t need to wake up with their mom lying next to them. My aunt did the same thing, slept in the same bed with her son regularly until he was about 12. The boy decided to end it, not my aunt. Maybe your son will do the same.

Sheri R.Participantyou are assuming black people smoke more week that whites. it is probably more accurate to say that black performers talk about smoking weed more than white performers. there hasn’t been a formal poll taken so your assumption is most likely flawed. and MOST people don’t think weed smoking is a big deal. this is why it was made legal in california.

Sheri R.ParticipantI don’t believe a white woman flipping her hair is a sign of prejudice, unless the woman is flipping her hair because she knows that the average African American’s hair will not flip in the same manner. This has a history. A white woman flipping her hair around was seen as a sign of beauty and because African American hair is less likely to ‘bounce and behave,’ and African Americans have been constantly told that their hair is ugly because of this, many blacks feel offense when they see white women constantly flipping their hair. Personally, I just think it’s not a good idea to flip one’s hair around food products. If i were your manager, I would have asked you to wear a hair net of put your hair in a ponytail to avoid the flipping altogether. But no, I do not think you were being prejudiced, just unaware of the history.

Sheri R.ParticipantThe gold teeth are another form of adornment, just like any other piece of jewelry. It is something people saw someone famous wearing and so they copied it. You could say it’s to reflect status because they cost so much but it is honestly just something people copy from seeing it in the media. It’s no different than when whites put on the latest fashion worn by some starlett or other famous person. Why else would they walk around with their mid-drifts showing all the time if they hadn’t seen famous girls on TV doing the same?

I was given a warning by my boss for flipping my hair because the African-American women said it was ‘a prejudiced action.’ They wouldn’t explain to me why. To African-American women: If you think a white woman who flips her hair is prejudiced, why do you feel that way?

Sheri R.Participantjenny… unfortunately you DID get honest comments regarding fat/over weight/obese people. also unfortunately most of the people commenting are misinformed. it is erroneous to _assume_ that every fat person stuffs his/her face and lacks self control. they have bought into the biggest lie the diet industry and the media peddles. to look down on anyone is a way to boost up yourself. people who point a judgemental finger at fat people are usually trying to make themselves look better. many fat people got that way because of yo-yo dieting. HELLO people! the diet industry is a multi-BILLION dollar a year industry peddling solutions that will never work in the long run. even doctors don’t really know, short of gastric bypass surgery, how to get weight off people and keep it off. the negative comments from people who aren’t doctors should be ignored. instead of judging people i’d suggest people who are clueless pick up a book and learn something about weight loss. people are taking ephedrine, a drug that may kill, to lose weight. how many fat people took fen/phen and got heart defects trying to lose weight? that isn’t a sign of lack of will power, that’s a sign of desperation. no one in their right mind _wants_ to be fat and there are more reasons than just a bad thyroid that makes a person fat. how do you know a breathing problem is from the fat, the breathing problem may have come first. if you can’t breath you certainly can’t exercise. some have medical conditions, some have emotional problems. either way, no one has the right to judge because no one is perfect. i bet you all wouldn’t be so judgemental if the woman posting had said she were anorexic. you probably would be envious of her self control, nevermind she would be dying. many obese people are dying the same way…only they are gaining. where is the sympathy for them? the fattest man in the world had a medical problem that caused the weight gain, just FYI, and it wasn’t his thyroid.

Sheri R.Participantfor ME, it doesn’t. i have no interest in sex at all while i’m on my period. in fact, my body is so sensitive in that area that even if i were interested i wouldn’t have sex. however, that probably explains why you like it, the area is more sensitive because of the hormones and such.

Sheri R.ParticipantAs I read your post I was wondering why you are a Republican. Then I read that you are only 17 and from an upper middle class family. There’s your answer right there: you are from an upper middle class family. Being only 17, you also haven’t experienced much life. Most blacks aren’t Republican because most blacks are not financially well off. If you look solely at economics, poorer people in this country — black or any other race — tend to be Democrats. There is a long tradition of the Democratic Party doing more for the poor than the Republican Party. I was born very poor and worked my way up to being middle class, and I firmly believe I was able to do that because of programs supported by Democratic elected officials. I am not Republican because those same programs are always under attack by Republicans. If I were born rich or at least well off, I would probably be Republican for financial reasons. Republicans like to keep the rich, rich.

Sheri R.ParticipantI don’t know if you do other things like you say here, but if you do, then I’d say yes, you are a racist. Anytime you take the actions of a few and make a sweeping judgment about an entire group of people, you are racist, in my opinion. I’ve gone to the movies, too, and had people talk or kick the back of my seat. Each time those people were white, most of the time white teens. I do not avoid just white teens at the movies, I avoid ALL teens. I also avoid people who chomp their popcorn loudly or slurp their sodas, or children who will cry and complain through the whole film. One time I turned and asked a couple of white teens to stop talking through the movie. They only lowered their voices but didn’t stop talking. I’m not condemning all white teens because of those two who annoyed me. If you allow yourself to change all your behavior and expect the worst from all black teens just because a few have annoyed you, you are a racist, or at least you are stereotyping.

Sheri R.Participanti think the issue really isn’t whether or not whites are ‘mean’ or not. the real issue being brought up here is history. every culture/country has some bloodshed in their history. no one is perfect. no one is without blood on their hands historically. however, i DO think some errors in your statements need to be corrected. much of what you said can be answered more by economics than non-whites seeking white neighbors. if a country is prosperous and powerful and provides opportunity, people want to live there. the majority of people living in that country may be white but that doesn’t mean the country’s success is solely because of whites in that country. crime is also a result of ecconomics many times. blacks generally are poorer than whites and any group that has less many times will resort to crime. with slavery you say this as if one day whites just woke up and said it was wrong to have slaves. freeing the slaves was a very long and bloody conflict that cost this country more lives than any of the others wars it has ever had. before slaves were freed, a slave owner could do _anything_ they wanted to their property. we can’t imagine what that means but the fact that suicide was the number one form of death for slaves might give you an idea. slavery was ended for political reasons and the south fought damned hard to keep it for economic reasons. as for slavery in africa…it is not the same as it was here. with the U.S., slavery was never ending. people were born slaves and would die slaves. in other countries, slavery was used to pay off debts. once you worked off your debt, you are free. you’ve assumed that affirmative action automatically promotes undeserving non-whites. that’s a stereotype that i personally believe comes directly from racism. some whites just can’t conceive of a non-white being as qualified for anything as they are. non-whites can be and ARE qualified for jobs and schools. if they aren’t, then they get fired, just like an unqualified white person. there are plenty of organizations that help others. i think the important thing about them is that people involved are helping each other, not pointing fingers and making accusations.

Sheri R.ParticipantI can only speak from my experience. I have felt it once – the sensation of something coming out of my husband’s penis. Was it pleasurable? No, it was weird. It felt like someone peeing on my insides. On other occasions, I have felt his penis pulsate while ejaculating. That felt good, not great because I knew sex was pretty much over at that point, but good. I know some women don’t ever feel anything like that. It helps to be really excited and if you want your woman to feel these things, you can’t pound into her like crazy, it has to be slower and easy. Personally, I prefer it that way but I know some men just go for it.

Sheri R.ParticipantWell Matt… I don’t profess to know it all about why watermelons are so offensive but I can tell you my opinion. I think they are offensive and considered a negative stereotype because they fit into the whole idea about blacks being these uneducated, singing, dancing happy to be in poverty stereotypes. What are the blacks doing in that image with the singing, dancing, so-called carefree life…eating watermelon. There’s also this image that blacks just love the stuff…we cant’ get enough watermelon so if you want to soothe some annoyed blacks, just give them watermelon. Yes, everyone in the South eats it but blacks are the ones who are associated with it as a negative stereotype. Maybe you have never seen the image of the little black kid with nappy hair, huge lips, huge eyes and a face full of watermelon. It’s a hurtful image and meant to promote an ugly stereotype. Fried chicken is another one, which is why that comment from the golfer regarding Tiger Woods wanting fried chicken at the Master’s Tournament dinner was so insulting. I think these foods are targeted and others aren’t because these foods were used in advertisements featuring negative images of blacks.

Sheri R.ParticipantFirst, I don’t consider a basketball coach to be a prominent ‘African-American’ leader. To me, he is just like any other person who uses something huge from the past to justify his point about something personal. It’s exactly the same as when some people use the Holocaust or when they say someone is a ‘Nazi.’ To be honest, I have to wonder why it is that any African American who speaks out and is presented prominently by the media is considered an ‘African-American leader’ by some (usually non-blacks). Personally, and I think many others would say the same, I can speak for myself.

Sheri R.ParticipantHi there… I don’t profess to know the answer to this question but I will say the little, tiny bit I know. I saw a program on a tribe in Africa where it was believed that boys had to ingest the semen of an adult man in order to begin growing into a man. Basically, the boys had to perform oral sex on the men of the tribe or they would not be considered men. Those men were still considered straight and so were the boys, even though they were performing sexual acts with each other. I think it is because for a relationship, they had to marry a woman and this was more a ritual than just a sex act. Now, in Brazil, for some reason, men who receive anal sex are considered ‘gay’ but men who deliver it aren’t. I think it’s because there, men are supposed to be in charge of directing sex. if they aren’t, they are considered feminine. That’s my guess. Personally, in cases like Brazil, I think it’s just a bunch of rationalization. In cases like that tribe, it’s a cultural ritual. It really depends.
