Well, I’ll respond first to your last question– I think that, just as with straight women, there are lesbians and bisexual women who find stripping for money, etc., distasteful for a variety of personal and political reasons. There are also those who don’t. As a lesbian woman, I’ve gone to strip clubs, and gentlemen’s clubs, though I’ve never seen a ‘lesbian’ strip club… there are pansexual clubs that feature a variety of dancers, usually in sexy gear, though not necessarily naked… this is a slightly different environment, though. Interestingly,in Korea (where I was stationed with the United States Air Force) there are many clubs where girls dance in bikinis and work as ‘escorts’ for a fee. Military lesbians and bisexual women are a small but noticable percentage here, and often take up with these women. And lesbians and bisexual women enjoy a certain amount of popularity with the working-girls as well. I know several women who frequent their ‘regular’ clubs and are adored, not just by their gay or bi ‘working’ girlfriends, but by all the girls in the clubs. I’ve talked to many of the young women that work in the clubs who are from the Philippines and Russia and have done similar work in other countries and say that it’s the same everywhere they go.

I’m an agnostic but I was raised in the United Methodist Church, and my mother is a member of their clergy. Though I am an agnostic, I still support the Methodist Church financially and with volunteer time. A few brief things– Like the Catholic Church, Methodists believe in Holy Baptism and the Sacraments, in a pretty similar manner, though they do not believe in transubstantiation. You will find less reverence of the Virgin Mary in the Catholic sense, although United Methodists are becoming more aware of her as a distinct personality. Methodists also believe in ‘blessing’ people and animals (we usually have an annual ‘pet blessing day’ at my mother’s church), however they do not believe that objects can be blessed by anyone–therefore, a Methodist minister may not ‘bless’ objects. Anyone is welcome to participate in the sacraments in a United Methodist Church. You may take communion there if you’d like to experience this in a Methodist Church, and you are not violating any Methodist beliefs, regardless of whether you are/were a Catholic, a Hindu, a Buddhist, an atheist, a homosexual, a vegan, a circus clown, or a mass-murderer. Methodists believe that it is not within the power of a minister or congregation or even Church law to deny the Body of Christ to anyone who wishes to partake in it. Methodists do not have ‘First Communion’ for this reason, because children, non-believers, anyone, may take communion at any time. They do, however, have a similar process known as Confirmation–a series of classes about the history and doctrine of the Methodist Church, usually accompanied quite a bit of bible study (we read the entire new testament in my Confirmation Class), ended with a ceremony, usually during a church service, where the participants promise to uphold the Church and her doctrines, and the congregation agrees to support the participant in their spiritual journey. If there is anything else you would like to know, please feel free to email me and I will put in you touch with my mother, who is very well versed in Roman Catholicism also and is more qualified to help you decide if the United Methodist Church is right for you. Or, if you prefer to do more research on your own, ask the pastor at the church in your area if you can borrow the United Methodist Book of Discipline. It will certainly answer any questions you might have about the denomination.

I’m white, and I’ve noticed that people of other races often smell differently to me. Anyhow, what does ‘raw’ mean? I’ll try to tell you if you describe the smell… probably something to do with hygeine products or food…

Naturally, it may well be that much of this discrimination is racially motivated. But you failed to mention the status of other minorities in your workplace, so it’s hard to be certain. I bring this up because I went through an almost identical situation myself, but I’m white. I’m also female. So are you… sometimes it isn’t color, sometimes it’s gender. And in your case, it’s probably a combination of both. Anyhow, sis, good luck, and don’t let the bastards get you down. They really win when their ill-treatment starts to brainwash you into believing that their actions are acceptable.

in reply to: Wha is Asian female beauty? #38185

I’ve been living in Korea for two years; it’s definately changed my perspectives on Asian beauty. I think that the first response is right on–the major aspect of the ‘attraction’ is the ‘exotic’ aspect. I was amazed and sort of amused by the number of women in Korea who have surgery to create an eyelid fold to imitate other races. I can tell you that your average Caucasian or Black person is not going to notice one bit if you have or don’t have an eyelid fold. Depending on what your nationality is, there are certain things that I find more or less attractive about Asian women… Love the shiney dark, straight hair you see with a lot of Korean and Chinese girls, the different eyeshape, the perfect skin. Also, the girlish sort of slenderness is also very attractive to some foreigners. (Of course, I am talking in generalizations…) On the other hand, I think that Filipinas (some of whom identify as asian), who tend to be a little-to-considerably rounder and curvier, to the point of being plump, and tend to have much stronger facial features, are also sexy. It really, really varies according to the ‘foreigner’ and what experiences they’ve had with Asian women. I think the most interesting thing is that many of the features that Korean and Filipina girlfriends of mine have considered really important don’t generally matter to foreigners, for example, eyelid folds, pale skin, bigger-or-smaller breasts, lighter colored hair, and the like. We look for the same things in Asian girls as in our ‘own’ girls–nice skin, nice teeth, well-proportioned figure, sweet smiles, and their own sense of style.

I’ve always found a good way to judge the color of someone’s pubic hair is by their eyebrows– just as their are natural blondes with somewhat darker eyebrows than their natural ‘head hair'(like me, haha), there are blondes with darker pubic hair. Same with red heads. Basically, though, it’s not going to be too drastically far apart–no redheads or blondes with jet-black pubic hair.

I agree with the nurse; I’ve worked in a nursing home also. I think that older people sometimes deal poorly with the frustrations they encounter as they grow older, and some take this out on yournger people. They feel helpless and being crabby is one of the remaining ways of exercising some sort of power over someone else. I think it’s good to call someone on their disrespectful behavior, regardless of their age, and it is also good to try to understand why they are acting that way in the first place.

in reply to: Interracial couples in the South #45993

I grew up in the South, and yes, there will be people who stare–there will also be people who stare wherever you go. However, any sizable city in the South, especially with military bases near by (so many interracial marriages there) and/or a healthy tourist/college population are going to be fine. Yes, you’ll have to adjust to some people being a bit more closeminded than you are yourself, but I wouldn’t say it’s a ‘bad choice’ to move there. I would say, without hesitation, that it would be a ‘bad choice’ to move to certain small towns in the South, where interracial dating and marriage is so uncommon that even liberal, supportive people are going to stare at you, and where you and your husband might be in danger of more sever harassment. As a woman who has dated women and men in the South, I understand that some people value rebelling against social norms and setting a precedent, but the relationships that can withstand such outside abuse are few and far between. Hey, at least you’re a *straight* interracial couple. *smiles*
