In a word, because the Bible tells them so. Just read Justice Scalia's argument against the recent decision reversing the sodomy laws - it stinks of the so-called 'Christian' agenda against anything gay (and he had the nerve to state that he has nothing against homosexuals after writing that argument). Where is the justice in saying that 'I can do something that you can't just because I'm heterosexual and you're not." I live for the day when this country realizes that the main reason the founding fathers conceived this nation was to escape religious persecution. This is not a Christian nation but rather a nation for all religious persuasions.

It sounds like your son is either gay or bisexual. I, like you, experimented sexually with other boys when I was a young teen. There came a point, though, when my friends didn't want to do it anymore but I sure did. I had experimented sexually with a few girls as well, but was not one bit aroused by it and could only achieve orgasm by masturbating myself while doing it. About this time I began to wonder if I was gay. Does your son have any girlfriends or does he show any interest in girls? If not, chances are he is gay. I suggest you contact your local PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians And Gays) and join in for a meeting or two. Tell the group your story and you'll undoubtedly hear alot of 'been there already's'. Listen to how they dealt or are dealing with the issue then have a talk to your son. Above all, don't ignore the issue and go into denial like my parents did when my mother walked in on me and another kid from my school getting hot and heavy in bed when I was 16. That caused a ton of hurt up until the time I finally came out of the closet.

I once posed this question to a straight couple who are neighbors of mine. His reply regarding seeing two girls going at it was that he just finds it highly erotic and a major turn-on as a guy. Her reply regarding two girls was that she believes women reach a level of intimacy and respect when making love that men just can't (or don't seem to acheive). When I asked then what about two men, his reply was that he just saw 'no beauty' in the act - it's just raw sex and that the idea of male sex seems too gross to be a turn-on. Her reply was much the same: the times she has seen two men go at it, it appeared to be just brutal, raw sex with no intimacy or respect for the other person. And as a gay male, I'd have to agree. I have seen both, and between lesbians there just seems to be a higher sense of intimacy and gentleness. With men, it's rough, brutal, raw sex just for the sake of self-gratifaction. In very few instances have I witnessed (either in person or on video) a tender, caring, intimate sexual encounter between two men.

There are certain styles of clothes that younger and 'out' gay men seem to gravitate toward, such as Abercrombie & Fitch. Tight t-shirts, tight jeans, shiny fabrics, necklaces and bracelets also seem to be common fashion statements among younger 'out' gay men. But this is true of lesbians, too. The 'biker chick' look and lose jeans, braless with white t-shirts and plaid shirts seem to be favorites of many lesbians I know. If a straight person dresses this way, I too am guilty of assuming they are gay. If they choose to dress this way, the assumptions are a given ...and they better be prepared to deal with it.

When I started my current job I was already out. One of my coworkers confronted me shortly after I was hired. She looked at me and said: 'I don't like gays and I think it is morally wrong and a sickness. I don't want you around my children.' All I did was give her an icy glare, a scowl and the silent treatment. From that point on it was business only with her. When I became her supervisor, I took her into my office and flatly stated that any comments made about my or anyone else's sexual orientation would result in immediate disciplinary action as outlined under the laws of the State of California. Hopefully, like California, all states will soon make discrimination based on sexual orientation illegal. Until then, an icy glare, a scowl and walking away with no comment will say it all. There is no need to defend your sexuality to anyone.

Were he a minor, this would not only be wrong but illegal. Given that he is of consenting age and an adult, I see nothing wrong with this. When I was in grad school, I shared an apartment with a guy 15 years my senior. Almost every Sunday night we would watch pornos on the VCR and mutually masturbate each other. It's just a highly enjoyable and safe release of sexual energy.

Dave: As a gay man, I can honestly say that the thought or sight of a man having sex with a woman utterly grosses me out. But that does not make me prejudiced against straight people. People don't 'practice' heterosexuality or homosexuality- they simply are that way. And to hate someone for what they are by birth is just plain ignorant and bigoted. When I was your age I was VERY closeted- no one knew or suspected I was gay. When I reached 30, I found out that a good friend of mine is high school is also gay- neither one of us had any idea that the other is gay. You probably have a few pretty close friends who are gay and closeted. Would you end a good friendship with that person if you knew he or she was gay? I only hope that you are not that shallow of a person. If you do find out that any of your friends are gay I hope you view it as a chance to learn more about what it is to be gay, thus enriching your life further.

It depends on your definition of sex and family members. Some states allow marriage between kin as close as first cousins, but most allow between family members only as close as second cousins. I don't consider second cousins to really be family; to be honest, I wouldn't recognize hardly any of my second cousins if they ran into me on the street. Intercourse with an immediate family member is morally, ethically and legally wrong - it's incest. A pregnancy could lead to mild birth defects or worse. Other kinds of sex? Depends on the situation, I'd say. I experimented sexually with both my brother (a year older than me) and my male cousin (same age) numerous times as a young teen - oral sex, anal sex, kissing, masturbation, you name it. Nothing but innocent pubescent curiosity and raging hormones and I see nothing morally wrong with that whatsoever. It was mutual, not forced (and a lot of fun, come to think of it!).

Does friendship mean so little to you that you are willing to end it because of what others think? I would hope you are not that shallow of a person.

I find no offense in being called 'gay slang' names by any of my gay or bisexual friends and have done the same myself - as long as no offense is intended and it's done in a playful or self-mocking manner. A few weeks ago I was at the gas station filling up (I have a Pride bumper sticker) and some young punk of about 20 behind me looked at me and called me a 'faggot' and a 'c**ksucker.' I looked at him, smiled and said: 'That's right! I'm a faggot and I enjoy sucking c**k! I don't have a problem with it, and if you do, I suggest you refrain from calling anyone that. You may just say it to the wrong person and end up getting the crap beat out of you!' That totally disarmed him. He turned red as a beet and turned around and walked away.

I frequent the nude beaches in California on a regular basis and have many friends who are nudists. We see nothing sexual about being nude. To us, it's just not having any clothes on and means nothing else. It's enjoying the sun, surf and sand au naturel. We were given beautiful bodies by our maker, so why be ashamed, no matter what your size, shape or orientation? (Just because you have to be naked to have sex, does it mean every time you get naked you need to have sex?) But, even among long-time nudists the occasional erection does pop up for whatever reason - once again, nothing to be ashamed of - it's totally natural. Any virile male will tell you erections can happen for no reason whatsoever (most males experience the very common occurance known as 'morning wood' in their sexually peak years of 15-35). If one finds oneself 'standing tall' on the beach, etiquette says to lie on one's stomach until the erection subsides, mostly out of consideration for many of the families with children who frequent nude beaches.

On any nude beach you will get the occasional pervert walking around 'tall and proud' thinking he's going to get sex by flaunting his shortcomings. As these types tend to endanger the status of the beach remaining clothing-optional, they are told to take it elsewhere by the beach regulars.

If you are having any type of sex, then it is highly illegal. It would be considered having sex with a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, if he is supplying you with alcohol and/or drugs. If you are just seeing him casually with no bodily contact of a sexual nature (I'm not talking a casual hug or a peck on the cheek), then it would not be considered illegal, although it would be possibly considered immoral by some.

When I was a teen, my hormones (like most every teenage boy's) were raging out of control. At 13, a friend told me that if I put peanut butter on my penis and let my dog lick it off it was just like getting oral sex. Having never experienced one before and wanting to know what it felt like, I tried it. That was all it took: the feeling was fantastic, and over the next few years I did this on a regular basis as an alternative to masturbating. On one occasion, when I was 15 (and alone and drunk) I had intercourse with the dog (she was a large mixed-breed) because I wanted to know what that felt like, as I was a virgin and scared stiff of girls.

I chalk it all up to teenage curiosity. Once I got a regular sex partner, all that ended.

Because, my dear...in most states '16 will get you 20' (years in prison for having sex with a minor).

And pray tell, when did you 'decide' that you were straight? I made no choice to be gay- it is who I am and, yes, I was born that way. I did not realize homosexuals could not reproduce! My 'boys' are very active swimmers and 100% capable of producing a child. And, there are such things as recessive genes that do not show in each and every generation. Neither of my parents are blondes yet I am. By your logic, my hair should be brown. My cousin on my mother's side is gay, as is my lover's cousin on his mother's side. The so-called 'gay' gene could be a recessive gene passed from the mother's side of the family. As for my gay life not serving any useful purpose, I happen to be a VP of a large financial institution and definitely feel my life, like the life of every other soul on this planet, has a useful purpose. I am extremely offended by your comments- but then again this is Y Forum and the exact place where these questions are meant to be answered.
