You may come to enjoy sex as time goes on, or maybe you won’t. I know several persons who identify as “asexual”. They have friends and in one case a live in domestic partner (strictly platonic), but they don’t care to have sex. These people have a lot of time and energy to put into their careers and hobbies and in one case have even adopted a child. There’s nothing wrong with not wanting sex.

The media, advertising and our general culture teaches men that all women are available (for the right price). Men grow up being fed the BS that ‘no’ means ‘yes’ and that any woman who bothers to put on lipstick is actively trolling for sex with anyone who happens to want her. I’ve heard a guy say that any woman who works out to have a good figure must be a slut.

Sadly all you can do is be supportive of her decisions and help her get over him when it does fail. It’s never smart to get between a friend and his/her love interest. Also, unless you’re gay your interest could be misconstrued as a desire to break them up for your own purposes.

The Europeans who first came to the US happened to be of a sect that demonized sex. The US to this day suffers from a sex-phobic, Calvinist attitude. Protestants in Europe (Lutherans and Anglicans for example) don’t seem to have these freaky attitudes about sex.

I work in a business where gay men are over represented in terms of their numbers in the general population. I have dealt with just as many nasty, snarky, cynical bastards who happen to be gay as I have dealt with straight a**holes. Gay men come in all temperaments, just like straight men. Although I will admit that going to dinner or drinks with a gay colleague can be more enjoyable than with a straight one because you know he’s not going to get drunk and make a pass at you.

After an incredible spate of “bad luck”, I too came to the conclusion that if there is a God, he hates me. After realizing that there is no God and that life is a random series of events, I feel much better. Your life is under your control, not that of some imagined deity concocted by the superstitious and insecure to make themselves feel superior to everyone else.

Unless my city and state are a complete anomaly, the national trend does seem to be pressure on even “low” level office workers to put in longer and longer hours without additional compensation. I know “secretaries” doing 80 hour weeks for 30K a year. It seems to be getting worse. So, hoping to hear from someone who actually does physical labor. Where would you prefer to work?

You are not a freak and you are not alone. You’re just living in a small town with narrow minded people. If there isn’t a GLAAD, PFLAG or other gay-friendly organization in your town, seek one out in a nearby city. You can’t let a few bigots determine what your life will or won’t be. You’re only 17, you have so much ahead of you. Keep in mind, when teens tell “fag” jokes and appear insensitive it is often because they’ve never had any proper gay role models. You can be that example for them. Show them that gay folks can be kind, competent, smart, funny and devoted friends. DO NOT DO ANYTHING CRAZY and seek out a suicide hotline at least if you’re feeling on the edge. It isn’t worth it.

My kid goes to a hippy private school, mostly white and Latino, and half the kids there have made up or way pretentious names. DaVinci, Trueheart, Mindanao, etc. And don’t forget all the weird white trash names in the world: Ashlee, Brit’ni, Caycee, McCayla, Shayla, Shyla, et al. My two closest black friends are named Deborah and Angela. Their siblings have names like John, David, Carolyn and Joe.

I know very few women who were able to achieve orgasm during the first few years of being sexually active. Also, most women can’t get there through vaginal intercourse alone. You may need to do a bit of experimentation, by yourself and with partners, to find out what turns you on. You’re NOT unusual and it’s not necessarily some mental hang up. Women are physiologically different than guys. If you’re with a trusted partner, you’ve tried everything and you still can’t get there, THAT would be the time to reach out to a professional.

What it WILL do and HAS done is inject millions of desperately needed dollars into the depressed California State economy. Between license fees and all the money spent on these additional weddings, gay marriage has been great for California. I’m guessing a lot of states could use this additional income. Too many “conservative” states are shooting themselves in the foot on this issue.

I have known gay men who start this way because they’re still intimidated by the notion of penetrative sex. It’s possible this guy just really likes giving head, or it’s possible he’s still not quite comfortable with his sexuality. It’s also possible he was trying to shield you from an STD of some sort. I have experienced this as a straight woman with a guy who was embarrassed to tell me he had genital warts.

One would expect you to be at least a little understanding. But, any guy who has to write “very, very straight” in his forum profile as clearly got some issues anyway.

The clan actually killed people. As far as I know, the Westboro Baptists are just annoying morons. Let the punishment fit the crime. The Phelps family certainly deserve to be protested, criticized, mocked and verbally abused. But death seems a bit harsh. They’ll be stunned when they DO get to the pearly gates to find that God isn’t a homophobic ass and that they’re headed straight to hades.

in reply to: Whites who tan – why? #20731

Most “white” people realize it’s suicidal to actively tan and they wear hats and lots of sunscreen. As someone who has suffered numerous bouts of melanoma and has never tried to get a tan, I assume it’s because you can’t quite avoid the sun completely. It’s no coincidence that pale complected people in the US sunbelt, Africa, Australia and places like that have EXTRAORDINARY rates of death from skin cancer. Blacks can also get skin cancer by the way. Bob Marley died of it.
