Interestingly enough, I have noticed the opposite. I also think that it can be a matter of socioeconomics rather than race. Many poorer, less-educated people don't seem to want to bother (and I've seen this in my own family) while people who are higher up on the economic ladder (perhaps mom can afford to stay home) are more inclined to take the time. I have a cousin who is much less financially stable than I am and her kids were potty trained much later than mine. She works, too, and I do not, so maybe she just doesn't have as much time to dedicate.

I have two little boys, ages 1 and 4. I would absolutely have no problem with a teacher being gay. Sexual orientation has no place in the classroom, either way, so I wouldn't care a whit. As long as the person is an effective teacher and is instilling a love of learning to my boys, I'm behind them no matter what.

WOW! I didn't even know that this was a 'hot' holiday in the black community. When you choose not to recognize the day of American Independence, just keep in mind that the Americans that did the 'enslaving' retained that terrible mindset and way of life from the English and other Europeans who taught them to do it. To blame America as a country for an ancient tradition, indeed back to the Romans who enslaved the Jews, is wrong in itself.

I have seen women of all races who I think are absolutely beautiful-- Iman is one of my favorites, Lucy Liu, the girl from 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,' Rosario Dawson, my next door neighbor, who is black, Nicole Kidman... on and on. I think equally about men of all races-- Taye Diggs, Orlando Bloom, Antonio Banderas, Benjamin Bratt. It's entirely a matter of personal taste. As one other responder said, it may simply be a matter of 'exotic' and what looks most different from what you are used to.

I really think that it is mostly ignorance. The vast majority of Americans are Christian and have very little knowledge or education of other religions. It's probablt easier for them to lump certain people together than to consider people's differences. It's a 'since you look like one, you must be one' syndrome. I'm terribly embarrassed by it. I'm sorry that this is happening. I am trying very hard to raise my sons as tolerant, well-educated men, and all we can do now is try to change perceptions.

How about because not all religions are based on a belief in Christ? Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, Wiccans, Druids... none of them believe that Christ was the son of God. You cannot unite all religions because not everyone believes the same thing you do. If you are talking about uniting Catholics and Protestants, I wish you well.

I am 31 now and lost my virginity at 16, to a man who I did not marry. Absolutely no regrets. I also know people who have chosen to wait for marriage and they are perfectly happy with their decision as well. The decision to have sex before marriage depends entirely on the individual and the circumstances. I did cherish my virginity-- and I chose to give it to someone who I loved very much. Do not judge someone based on your own choices.
