The European environment was more hostile than the African environment? Europeans never had to worry about being eaten by lions or trampled by elephants!

I remember that my father would never buy a German product. For that matter, he would never buy a Ford product because Henry Ford was a notorious anti-semite. But in my opinion, and obviously in the opinion of the government of Israel, things have changed. The German government has paid reparations to the victims of the Holocaust, and to the State of Israel. It has established a true democracy and seems to uphold democratic ideals. Virtually all of those who could have been considered war criminals have already died, and the few survivors are aged, toothless wrecks. So the question arises: how long do you punish anyone for crimes committed by their parents and grandparents? At some time they have to be re-admitted to the community of decent people. It appears that enough is enough.

If hygiene were an issue, men would shave their armpits, too.

Of course women fart. The important point, however, is that farting is the true test of any new relationship. There is no relationship whatsoever until one is able to noisily, odorifously and unabashedly fart in the presence of the now 'significant other.'

Poeple don't automatically vote for candidates for purely economic motives. Poeple select candidates for other reasons, including social policy, abortion, gun control and a host of others. In my part of the country, 'trailer park-living white Americans' break down into two categories: retirees and what we lovingly refer to as 'trailer trash'. The latter group has a markedly higher incidence of racial bigotry than any other group I can think of. And in my part of the country, Republicans are perceived to be generally opposed to 'black' interests. This could well explain why 'trailer park-living white Americans' voted Republican.

When I was a child living in south Florida, all of our beaches were segregated. The few beaches that were set aside for blacks were somewhere in the middle of nowhere, and it was a real hassle to get to them. As an example, in Fort Lauderdale, access to the 'black' beach was by ferry boat. The inevitable result of all of this, at least where I lived, was that blacks had no opportunity to learn to swim. If anyone thinks blacks could have instead learned to swim in fresh water, that, too, was impossible. That's where the alligators live.

There is much more than a slight suspicion that Scientology is a vast, money making enterprise. It 'sells' many, very expensive services to its members. When an organization is in this kind of business, it must aggresively market its services. Without new members, its overhead will overwhelm its income and it will die. And its leadership would lose income and prestige. Incidentally, much of this marketing activity is carried out by low level, poorly paid, member/employees.

I have never heard that we have a "classless society" in the United States. What I believe we do have is a society where it is easier to move from class to class than it is in other societies.

My immigrant grandfather was a janitor. His children became salesmen or small businessmen. His grandchildren are almost all college graduates, with several members of the professions. There aren't too many countries in the world where that can happen.

Hopefully this decision will be made on other than racial grounds. The real issue before the admissions committee is whether this individual is qualified to be admitted to the practice of law. Because I do not know whether he is qualified, I cannot render an opinion as to whether he should be admitted.

A lawyer is responsible for many client interests. He is responsible for client funds, property and liberty, among other things. He or she also has a duty to the courts and others to act with candor and honesty. To be admitted to the practice of law, the individual in question must prove rehabilitation to the admissions committee. Rehabilitation means he can be trusted with the responsibilities described above. In Florida we have had a convicted armed robber admitted to the bar despite the objections of the police and prosecutors. This shows that it can be done. But the applicant must focus on his rehabilitation, not on racial issues.

The styles you describe are those prevalent in the Southern part of the country. That part of the country also produces the greatest number of 'Born-againers,' who are also the people who watch these shows. I suspect that the folks broadcasting these shows are not actually trying to convert anyone. What they are doing is raising funds to perpetuate the TV show, with money left over to pay the evangelist. Ergo, you are probably not the target audience in the first place.

Judaism has many words that signify 'God'. Hashem is one of them. The literal translation is 'The Name', meaning, 'the name (of God)'.
