I'm a fan of The Police, The Clash, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Dire Straits, Bad Company, Bob Dylan, etc. My dad is thrilled, and mostly everyone else reacts with joy or at least semi-amusement. Most people who've reacted negatively are my age and wonder why I listen to 'old crap.'

Well that's no fun. It's possible that your brothers just sort of naturally thinned out when they went through puberty, because some people are lucky that way, and you might be too. Speaking as a teenager who has also struggled with her weight, I can give you two pieces of advice: drink lots of water and don't drink anything that has calories. Do that and try to take smaller portions at dinner and you should start to see results after a while. Have you tried just talking to your mother about your desire to lose weight?

I'm a recovering self-injurer, and even though I tried my best to hide it when I was cutting, I know people noticed. Nobody ever said anything or reported it to my guidance counselor at school or told my parents. I've talked about this phenomenon with people before and the most common answers I get are 'I was afraid it would make you more depressed,' or 'I was afraid they'd send you to a hospital or something.' I think that with teenagers this is not caused by a lack of concern so much as it is caused by a lack of trust in the school guidance office...nobody wants to get their friend 'in trouble,' even if it's clear that they already are.
