LettyMemberOne of my friends has been called 'spade face' for years because she has a big nose, but I've never heard of any racist connotations with the phrase. Why a 'spade,' anyway? Why not a bicycle, or a raincoat?User Detail :

LettyMemberPersonally, I don't think there is such a thing as a 'typical' black person. Everybody is different and individual, whatever race or color they are. I know some black people think whites are evil or that we think we're superior to them just because we're white, and I wouldn't want to meet anyone like that. All the black people I have met so far (including my penfriend in Canada who I write to but haven't met) have been very nice people and didn't conform to any traditionally perceived stereotype.User Detail :

LettyMemberWe don't all brag. I don't like myself very much at all, and I have nothing to show off about.User Detail :

LettyMemberMy parents divorced when I was two, and since then I have lived with my grandparents. I am allowed to swear in front of my father's family (but not at them), but when with my mother's family I get in major trouble just for saying something like 'bloody hell' or 'up yours'.User Detail :

LettyMemberI live in southern Spain, and in nearly 10 years here I have never once had the word 'gringo' directed at me. I have, however, been on the receiving end of a barrage of other racist abuse, including being deliberately thrown off a moving bus, broken glass being thrown at me and having the family car vandalized. There seems to be quite a bit of prejudice against British people here. I think some of it is because the locals feel we are helping to price them out of the housing market.User Detail :

LettyMemberAbsolutely fine. What's wrong with being from Haiti? Or anywhere, for that matter?User Detail :
