Most white people say the same about blacks. I always reply that the smell is hair care products but I think we all just smell differently and we are not used to the smell of other races. Sometimes I ask my nonsmelling black friends if they smell our other black friends (that do smell) and they always say no.

I also assume that black people automatically assume I'm racist. Therefore whenever giving customer service to a black person, I go out of my way to treat them well even if I'm having a bad day and am treating white customers poorly. This is a prejudice that I tried to stop but always felt bad about causing a customer to think my workplace full of racist employees. I have encountered a very few black customers who truly expect bad service because they are black and have come to the conclusion that there is nothing I can do about it. By few I mean maybe 3 out ot 1000.

Many of my friends and I have 'yellow fever'. We all like the straight black hair and good skin. We disagree on skin tone and just how exotic the face should be. I like paler skin while my buddy likes darker skin. My buddy also likes the more bucked tooth girls while I don't. We like to say that I like girls from Laos while he likes girls from Vietnam. We both like most Japanese girls but only a few Chinese girls. I have another friend who likes 'Americanized' girls while we like traditional acting girls. I eventually married a Native American who I actually thought was Cambodian when we first started dating. (I don't mind darker skin too much apparently.) I don't think there is a specific look for everyone.

I've worked in a variety of jobs and have seen many people claim they are being discriminated against because they are black or because of affirmative action. In almost every case it seems that the person is wrong. People just naturally think the world is out to get them or are looking for an excuse for why they are not succeeding as much as they think they should be. I have one very close friend who has jumped from job to job because she encounters racism everywhere she goes. I finally realized that she was raised to believe that there would be racism everywhere in the world and therefore everywhere she goes, she finds racism. It is holding her back from reaching her real potential in corporate Amrica. She will not listen to reason on this subject.

I am a white male with a Mesxican/Native American wife. She is often mistaken for an African American due to her dark complexion. I have been with my wife for over ten years. I have only seen people staring at us about 5 or 6 times. Of those people, I don't really care about what they think. The only thing that has made me nervous is whether they may tamper with our food in resataurants, but there's nothing you can do about it so I try not to think about it.

The local news stations here are so concerned with this that whenever they report on a crime, even if they are describing a suspect that the police are looking for, they will not identify the person as black or african american. They will however say that a crime was committed by a white person. You can tell the race of the person by whether they say it or not.
