In the Philadelphia area the extra-long white t-shirts started out as an identifier of those who were drug-dealers. Then , younger kids began to copy the style, wearing them to school and to play. Now, the fashion has been extended to other colors such as black, navy and even pink extra-large t-shirts. I'm hoping this is another bad fad that will pass. The only good thing about the white t-shirt phenomena is that t-shirts are really inexpensive, which is great for inner-city parents. Philadelphia public schools have already banned them. However, we're still dealing with extra-baggy pants and that fad is over 10 years old now. Go figure.

There are lots of Muslim organizations that speak out against Muslim extremist/terrorist violence. Islam is founded on principles of peace. One of the most notable is CAIR, the Council on American Islamic Relations. Check out their website and also check out www.islamonline.net.

Just a few words from a fellow Christian. peace, bj

As a hearing gay male I can't speak for non-hearing gay males. However, in my experience, there does seem to be a large number of deaf or hearing-challenged gay men. Guess I need to learn sign language!

In the times when the Bible was written, women's role in society was vastly different than it is today. Most women depended on their husband for shelter and clothing and many women were considered 'property' by their husbands. In addition, women were not allowed to become priests. In today's Westernized societies, women are earning as much as and, in some cases, more than their husbands. This, along with women's rights and the civil rights movement has led to a drastic change in the way that women are viewed in Christianity. Today, there are women priests and even bishops in some Christian denominations. However, many Christians still feel that ultimately the man is still the head of the household. But, he is encouraged to listen to his partner and take her opinions into consideration and to treat his spouse as a partner not a servant. peace always, bj

That's a new one one me and I've been actively gay for over 18 years now! If you want to be supportive of the GLBTQ communities then I might suggests you make a donation to HRC, (The Human Rights Campaign Fund), or, to NBJC (The National Black Justice Coalition). peace, bj in philly

Speaking as a liberal Christian, I believe that religion is a choice. Christians believe that one has a choice to accept Christ as your Lord and Savior. The only thing I can tell you is that there is a tremendous sense of peace knowing that God is protecting you and yours throughout this journey we call life. peace, bj

Hi Kim: At the time the NAACP was founded, blacks in this country were called 'cored'. That is why the organization has that name. However, if you have a need or concern, I am certain that your local NAACP chapter will gladly assist any person or, at the least, refer you to an organization that can help you. peace, bj

As a 35 year old Black male, I'm concerned when a black gay man or anyone for that matter is exclusively attracted to those outside of their own racial/ethnic groups. It makes me wonder if the person had an especially bad relationship with their father/step-father. One might also ask if you were molested by a black man? On the other hand, attraction is almost inexplicable...so go for what you like, just don't turn your back completely on your own black brothers. peace, bj

I don't believe that all black people yell at the movies. I believe that it's a matter of parenting and social class. regards, bj
