Shopping for things other than necessities seems to be a way to make up for things lacking in a person's life. Look around next time you are in Wal-Mart, there are so many people walking around aimlessly, just checking things out. Then there's living beyond one's means. It's the American way. Get a credit card, go into debt! You owe it to yourself and the country.... Shop!!

This reminds me of something I saw on TV pm Sixty Minutes, I think it was. They took two guys identical in every way; education, build, mannerisms, dress. There was only one difference between the two, one was black, one white. They followed them around to the same job interviews, hotels, all sorts of places. The differences in the way they were treated was astounding. My point is, you are lucky if you are white; people treat you different. Hard work has a lot to do with what you make of your life, but a black person has to work a lot harder for the same things a white person does in this country. Society makes it that way. People of all races will think 'they' are different, 'they' treat everyone equally, but it's hard to keep one's mind and attitude from the stereotypes driven by today's society.

I know a guy that says he does, he's very candid about it. 'Shaving his backboard' he calls it.

If the guy is going to be considerate, he would ensure it happens. If I want my wife to be receptive, I should make sure she knows it's gonna be worth her while.

This reminds me of a study I read about somewhere. Somebody got some kids together, just average, I think they were middle school kids, about 60. They split them into two groups and put into separate classrooms, taught by separate teachers. The teachers were given the same curriculum to teach, but one was told the group had the absorption capabilities of rocks, the other that the children of the group were high achievers. This is kind of a nasty trick to play on a teacher, but can you guess the outcome? The teachers perceptions had a lot to do with the way the children turned out. I don't know how long they were in this situation, but the children taught by the teacher that said they were high achievers did extremely better on standardized tests than the 'under achievers' did.

Maybe it just seems that way because there are more caucasian girls around. If it truly were the case that white girls 'put out' more, then the ratio of white girls that do to the total white girls would be higher than that of girls of other races that 'put out' to the total number of girls of other races. Or maybe, if it is indeed true, that the white girls are 'putting out' more in an attempt for more attention, because they have more 'competition' from the other white girls, who are more plentiful.

I've not noticed this, but then I doubt I would see it in Tucson. It would be interesting to find out what the deal is though. Is it someone copying a fashion statement by a celebrity, for example?

I am not so sure 'nobody' wants to be homeless or poor. I know of a Starbucks where an old guy sits every single day, has a coffee, and reads most of the day away. Looks like he hasn't had a bath in months, and wears the same clothes all the time. If he isn't homeless, poor, or both, then he's fooling everyone that looks at him. But think about it. How many people do you know would think their life a dream if all they had to do was sit at the coffee shop on the corner and read all day? Or maybe sit at the park all day watching people and the world go by?
