I am a white woman engaged to an East Indian man and I agree with E.D.. I find sari’s beautiful and ultra feminine. They look so comfortable. The problem is, not only would I feel strange wearing one, my fiance wouldn’t find it appealing. He has acceptance ‘issues’ with his family-they don’t like the fact that his future wife is non-Indian. I used to think racism was predominantly a white problem.

I find I am unable to live with myself if I don’t stand up for the ‘pickee’. I once stood up to a HUGE man who was viciously harassing a young gay male in a fast food restaurant. I was yelled at, had food garbage thrown at me and then he walked up to me (at this point my bladder almost emptied) and spit in my face. Would I do it again? Probably. I think it just made him look worse for picking on a disabled woman too.

If she had nurtured and protected us, we most certainly would feel that way. However, she was the most vicious, demanding, manipulative and violent person I have ever known. Beatings, belittlement and intolerance were a ‘staple’ in my household. Do I feel I ‘owe’ her respect? NO. Would I put her in a nursing home? I will confess, I NEVER thought I – a ‘small town girl’- would EVER find an East Indian man attractive, but he was so incredibly intelligent, kind, witty, patient ….everything I ever wanted in a man, so we met. I am so glad we did as he not only ‘fit’ the mental/emotional criteria he is gorgeous!! Chances are though, if he wasn’t a ‘looker’ I would have fallen for him anyway. as for having strict criteria regarding a mate-the only set-in-stone requirements I really had were that he was emotionally/mentally open. The rest is just fluff.

The socioeconomic class I grew up in was working poor and although my IQ is above average, I never completed high school. This applies to about 25 people I know who also suffer from MS. Where are they getting these statistics from?

In a crowded room she said ‘Look at her!’ She’s so SKINNY!!!’ I could tell that this very shy and reserved woman was uncomfortable so I responded ‘That wasn’t very nice. That is the same thing as being called fat.’ To which the ignoramus replied ‘Oh, but I would LOVE to be that skinny…but only with bigger boobs’ :S Some people aren’t intentionally mean…just ignorant of other peoples feelings.
