I wish it was that innocuous. Anytime the word monkey is attached to an insult, it is meant to dehumanize. Some racists think they are being nice by saying ‘monkeys’ instead of ‘niggers,’ but the same malicious intent is there. Sometimes these racists are speaking in code, which is where my familiarity with porch monkeys comes from. It was and still is used by some police officers to describe a congregation of black males either in front of a house or a street corner. Just like describing a car full of blacks as a ‘car full of coal.’ So even if you take the ‘monkeys’ out of the insult, I don’t think the intent is readily dispelled. It’s not like someone will have the time, energy, or sensitivity to say, ‘look at the porch occupants of African American descent,’ let alone just seeing human beings gathered in front of a home.

Let’s look at what you said. You’re comparing what Charlton Heston said in a documentary vs. what Will Smith -an actor playing Muhammad Ali – said in a movie that was based on a true story. And you’re wondering where’s the outrage and vilification from the media? Apparently you’re too young to remember the rage white America felt toward Ali during the ’60s and ’70s, when every word out of the man’s mouth was deemed to be advocating hate and violence toward white people. The media was all over him, whether it be his stance on the Vietnam War or his opinions about race. Just like the media is critical of Al Sharpton, Reggie White, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, Sammy Sosa, Dusty Baker or any minority who says something controversial. My point is that the ‘crucifixion’ of Ali took place years ago, and to compare what Ali thought about whites years ago to what he thinks now will lead to just the type of question you are posing. Political correctness is a fairly new concept, mind you, and it didn’t exist during Ali’s time because, frankly, whites didn’t give a hoot about being sensitive to minorities. And there are still plenty of whites who continue to think of blacks as being sub-human and permanently cursed by Noah, and guess what they are called: Christians.

I am hoping that you simply misspoke when you said the terms ‘bona fide porch monkeys,’ a connotation that seems to suggest that you’re making a racist statement as opposed to asking a question. Or maybe you don’t know what bona fide means. In any instance, your question has a simple answer: hate and bigotry. Blacks have endured a legacy of racist whites likening them to animals such as bucks, bulls, monkeys and the like, none of which have any scientific bearing or fact. Insults like these are the residue of larger stereotypes that some whites who are racist used to justify slavery, lynchings and the general, baseless theory of black inferiority. I suggest you read up on this country’s history as it relates to blacks and ask your questions in a more careful manner unless you enjoy getting lit into by the readers of Y? Forum.

To me, music is music. If I like it, I like it. I gave up believing that black folks have the monopoly on vocal talent and dancing ability some years ago, and as long as I can understand the lyrics to the song and the beat doesn’t make my head hurt, I will gladly embrace it. So along with my huge collection of R&B I have Eric Clapton, Bread, Norah Jones, Alanis Morrisette, Coorgan and others. I’m big on lyrics, and white folks have written some of the best ‘black’ songs ever.

As far as hockey goes, there are a lot of financial implications that make it difficult for poor blacks to participate in it. One has to first know how to ice skate, have a decent pair of skates, live within a few miles of an ice skating rink and have enough money for all the equipment. It is so much easier to find three or four friends, put on some shorts and gym shoes and play basketball with a makeshift rim. The only thing that can’t be compromised is that the ball has to be airtight and grippable.

I couldn’t get all points out in my first post, so here’s da rest:

By your reasoning, a South African pure-blooded black male who is a genius would be the ultimate superior individual because he has the intellectual ability of a white man and the physical strength and sexual dominance of a black man. What would you do then? But no one is superior to anyone else, because one trait, talent or ability does not make one better or more worthy to exist than another. There are dumb whites and unathletic blacks. There are endowed whites and average blacks. There are white women with booty for miles and black girls with NOASSATAW.

I wish the people writing into these forums would not phrase their comments in terms of absolutes and make sorry attempts to conceal their biases and agendas. Questions about why white women have no lips and flat butts are not real questions – they are opinions and not-so-sly disses that suggest where the author may be coming from. As more and more blood is mixed, the monopolies each race claims to have on certain traits and attributes are going to disappear. So we need to move away from that archaic thinking. And the Egyptians were black, but that doesn’t mean blacks are the master race.

It sounds to me like you are not as objective as you claim to be in making the assertions you are making, especially about something as expansively defined as intelligence. You suggest that whites should not be ashamed of an imaginary advantage they possess in intellect based on IQ tests? As if whites are inherently smarter than other races? That’s garbage. Then you suggest your ‘objectivity’ is visible because you’re willing to concede that some Asians may be a little smarter? How do you fit in your house with that big head of yours?

First of all, intellect is a reflection of what someone learns. There is no ‘smart gene.’ You don’t hear about Joey Einstein’s theory of generality, do you? Some of the smartest and brightest people have lived and left this planet unrecognized, and narrowing the measure of true intelligence to the data garnered from the largely flawed IQ test only compounds the controversy.

This is a supremacy/superiority dialogue at its worst, and it sounds to me that you think blacks are flaunting their genetic attributes, so whites should flaunt theirs. The only problem is that intelligence is not a genetic attribute, so whites do not own a monopoly on smarts. Keep in mind that whites invented race and indoctrinated the Western world in the genetic differences between whites in blacks in a racist manner, and that what many blacks brag about today was stated long ago by whites who bought and sold black slaves and enjoyed the intricacies of black sexuality.
