MarkParticipantAs a Caucasian male, I can only fool myself into thinking I know what kinds of discriminations others have faced. I think that it is (unfortunately) now part of our culture to think that one is entitled to compensation if you are wronged, as indicated by the number of lawsuits being filed everyday. There have also been some precedents set by Jewish groups getting reparations for the holocaust, and Native Americans getting reparations for past atrocities so I think that the hope is kept alive. The only problem I see with it is if there are leaders making false promises that reparations would be coming. I just don’t see how it could be economically or logistically possible to ever see this happen.

MarkParticipantI think you should treat your visiting experiences as being ‘typical’. These are both big tourism cities, so it’s inevitable that you will encounter some people who react negatively (whether they are ‘locals’ or not), and that may vary depending on whether it’s tourist season. Personally, I’d love to live in either city. If you’re uncomfortable, you may want to consider Charlotte, or Raleigh.

MarkParticipantThe next time this comes up, tell her that you think she should pursue an enlargement because it will clearly enhance her self-confidence. As this is something you both want, you should work toward it and pay for it together. However, I think this course of action is more appropriate once a long-term committment is made, so nobody feels used over this issue if there is a break-up.

MarkParticipantIn basic terms, you take the incomes of all people/households and break them into lower/middle/upper classes by percentiles. The lowest 25% are a class, the upper 25% a class, and the remaining 50% the ‘middle’. This number is variable depending on the cost of living where you are. Because the upper class usually has the largest range of incomes, this breakdown is usually weighted more like 35%/55%/10%. Upper middle class is simply having an income at the high end of the middle class range. In the United States, middle class is roughly $30K to $120K of income per year.

MarkParticipantMany Americans have never traveled abroad due to lack of vacation time, so they don’t know what it’s like to be a ‘tourist’. I guess I’m so used to our levels of service that I don’t even recognize how bad it is, or you’re experiencing a regional issue. You may want to visit other parts of the country and determine whether this is a ‘universal’ phenomenon.

MarkParticipantBecause of your use of the word ‘racist,’ I’ll assume you mean that the virus was introduced with the intention of causing harm or death to blacks. I agree that certain people might be motivated to try this, but the lack of selectivity of the virus (infects all humans) makes this an implausible scenario to me. I do agree with many articles that this virus is proabably not ‘naturally occurring’ and probably stems from a vaccination program, but I think that the consequences were unintentional. Africa is more affected due to poverty, health conditions and lack of education as much as being the target of any particular vaccination program. Crazy? No. But maybe a little ‘over the top.’
