As an African raised to speak properly (I speak slowly and clearly, because I have a different accent), I was amazed and rather disappointed at some of the mannerisms of African Amercians when I came to this country. I was an avid viewer of all those talk shows, and I thought all the African Americans were all the same. What I am trying to say is that those talk shows do not portray all the faces of black America. Also, when all the athletes, rappers and artists speak in such a lazy manner or cannot speak without the use of slang, of course the youngsters will try to emulate them, in almost all aspects.

Wow! I like your questions. Thank goodness; there is hope after all. I have never met men who are interested in women with values/morals. You can meet ‘those’ types of women almost anywhere: happy-hour, through friends, libraries, movies, church … and the list goes on. You just have to approach them in a manner that does not insinuate sex or being raunchy. There are lots of women out there who are interested in knowing the inner person; and most women would prefer a friendship/solid relationship to a casual, sex-oriented relationship. Just keep looking for your Ms. Right; you will find her.

It is a matter of respect. In the past and still today the word “black” denotes evil and anything bad, so African Americans do not want to be associated with a negative term. I am African, and I do not like being referred to as black because my skin is brown and not black. Nevertheless, I can tolerate the word (black), but the term I abhor and find offensive is “colored.”

Not all black girls are downright rude; you may have encountered a few who have nasty attitudes, but it is unfair to generalize. It is the same as saying all black guys are hoodlums.

The problem with black people’s hair is that the chemicals used to perm it tend to retard its growth. Nevertheless, there are people out there who use the perm kit, and it does not affect them. I have noticed that those with dreadlocks have very long hair, because it is chemical-free.

I am a black woman, and I do not hate white women. But I hate it when black women are sometimes compared and degraded for not being too skinny, for being too dark and for not having long, curly hair. I do not hate white women, but I dislike the black men who date only white women because they say we black women have attitudes.
