Just the use of the term “N” word instead of nigger is as offensive to me as others who claim the word is to them. As a matter of the fact, I once had to correct another teacher when she got all offended because I used the word niggardly. In the end, it was her own vocabulary that was lacking as much as her common sense. If you are going to say this is an unacceptable word, that’s fine. There are plenty of socially unacceptable words that should never be used in polite company- “fuck”, “cunt”, and “whore” being among them.. However, to raise this particular word to the level of grievance that it has reached is damaging to language, culture, and communication. People need to realize something: Hate speech is the only speech that should be protected because it is the speech that has to be protected. In reality, it’s poor people’s food. It’s the food that people who lived close to the land and who raised their own food were accustomed to. Since most blacks, Southerners, Mountain Folk, and the like all ate these foods regularly because it was what they could afford, they became associated with those people. Just listen to the old Hee-Haw program’s “Hey Grandpaw, what’s for supper” skit and you’ll see what I mean. Urban dwellers have their own “poor” food as well, but it is so spread out because of different immigrant populations in different cities that it doesn’t get mentioned as much. Add into that, the general hubris of superiority that most urbanites feel over their rural coutnerparts and you get some pretty ugly stereotypes. The American culture is industrialized/information aged as opposed to agrarian. That mean that a lot of children is a financial burden on the family. Add into the fact that women entering the workforce has made it difficult for them to have children as opposed to being stay at home moms as well as that those women’s salaries have boosted the median income of living to a point that it is now almost impossible for a family to live on one salary and you have a recipe for suppressing the birth rate. In agrarian cultures however, many children are helpful to the family. There are more hands to bring in crops and take care of the farm. This means that as those cultures begin to mechanize, they have a surplus of labor to export. The problem you bring up has less to do with “evil corporate America” than it does with simple shifts cultural means of production. There are many active mosques that are calling for the death of polytheists (usually aimed at Hindus) and the enslavement of anyone who doesn’t convert to Islam. Your statement was a nice platitude, but it does not hold up well in the light of reality. The evidence of Islam’s intolerance is everywhere to be seen, by anyone who would open their eyes. However, political correctness does not allow for that. I look at what happened to the 2000 year old Buddaist statues in Afghanistan and I weep. I look at what happened to the churches in Turkey and I weep. I look at what is happening in Denmark and I fear for the Temple at Upsala. Where ever Islam goes, civilization is frozen in time, and there is second class citizenship for women, for Jews, and for Christians. There is death for everyone else. Those are the facts.
