ayshaParticipantThis is a question that takes layers and layers of information to even begin to understand. First of all, not all Muslims hate Jewish people. Not all Jewish people hate Muslims. That is the most important thing to comprehend. Second, like most human history, land and resource are part of the base of the problem. Israel and Palestine are perfect examples of that. It becomes not so much about beliefs, but about which group of believers control what valuable thing. Are ‘we’ a Christian country, fighting an Islamic country because they need their souls saved, or because we want their resources? There are drastic differences in the belif systems, but there are also many things alike. Both are monotheistic, both are moral based, and both are absolute. The absolute is the next problem. Anytime anyone thinks they are absolute and right, they begin to push against that which they see as ‘wrong’. Be it the Vatican or Hitler, they both aim to control the thoughts and actions of their followers. Therefor, a radical Jew sees a Muslim as ‘wrong’, just as a radical Muslim sees a Jew as ‘wrong’. I come from a Jewish family, and have no problems with someone of Islamic faith. I have a problem with ‘All Jews are evil money hungery liers’, just as I have a problem with ‘Jews have been through so much, they deserve to get whatever they want’. I am a person, first and foremost. I am not totally defined by my family heritage, nor would I judge anyone else to be.

ayshaParticipantPersonally, I have never felt, or heard, adoption reffered to as shameful. To me, it sounds as if this professor has some seriouse issues to work out with a therapist. There might have been a stigma attached in years past, as many unwed mothers had to give their child up for adoption. So adopted children became the children of ‘degenerates’ to some. Unfortunetly, rape and incest are also a common cause for giving a child up for adoption. So some might decide such a person was less ‘validated’ as ‘pure’ then others. But in this day and age, considering everything going on in the world, I cannot understand how anyone could come to such a conclusion.

ayshaParticipantVery easy to answer with one word, genetics. The same way J.Lo got her butt and my brother got blue eyes. That accounts for a massive amount, but certainly not all. There are a myriad of answers to the rest. Medical, emotional, mental, physical? Couch potatoes who never do anything physical, well that’s an easy way to become obese. Loosing the ability to walk or move, that is another way. However, if concentrating on the U.S. society,…which media keeps reporting is the fattest place in ther world, there are more difficult issues. The U.S. diet is also one of the worst. Though we have ample amounts of healthy food, we consume so much suger, so much ‘processed’ food, so much crud, that our bodies are obese. How many people eat at a place like McDonalds at least once a day? Fast food, still mostly based on fat and carbs, is not helpful to the situtation. AS far as my weight, I was born this way. I took after my father, which was very difficult, because my sister took after my mother. At 21 she was a size 1 and wearing childrens clothing (seriousely), where at 17 I was a size 16 and wearing ‘fat’ girl clothing. The depression this and other issues caused me became a sever problem with Manic Depression. I gained over 70 pounds in a two year window, and truly became obese, instead of overweight. Once certain body types gain weight, it is difficult to reverse it. Fat cells remain,…they just shrink. So I have all my obese fat cells still,…they are just a smaller size. Sure I knew I was getting fat, but I had no way to stop it. Emotionally, mentally and physically I was unable to cope with anything in my life, much less that.

ayshaParticipantI live in South Idaho, and have lived in North. It is simply a regional preference. Some say Toe-mate-toe….some say Toe-mot-toe.

ayshaParticipantThis is a cultural practice and is not guided by religion. I say this because there once was the belief that Islamic people practiced this. While it is true there are some ‘fringe’ groups that identify themselves as Islamic and practice Female Genital Mutilation, it is not a mandated Islamic practice. It can be and usually is, used to control the female as a wife. One idea is that she gets no pleasure from sexual intercourse, and therefor will not cheat on her husband. The torture becomes even worse when she is ripped open by her husband or childbirth. She is then ‘sewn up’ to become small again, and more pleasurable to her husband. There is a famouse model, her name is Warus. She is a survivor of FGM and tells her whole story with complete frankness. The entire story is very compelling. For her, a sharp rock was used to cut. There was no aniseptic used, nor any dulling of sensation in the area. The rock cut off the clit, and she was put in a tent to recover. Infection is very likely, and many complications can arise, as with all medical procedures. There is no reverse or fixing this type of procedure once performed.

ayshaParticipantThis is a false perception. Female Genital Mutilation is not a part of the Islamic faith. It is in fact a cultural based practice. There are tribes that identify themselves as Islamic, but mix their own ancient beliefs in with the new. One result of this is FGM. As far as being practiced in the U.S., of course it likely is. Not by Muslims even, but the chance that some person somewhere in the U.S. is doing this is always possible. The statement of it being mandated in Egypt is completely new and unheard of to me. I know of no evidence pertaining to anything of the like. I know of no Egyptian female that has had FGM performed on her. Again, the chance that some Egyptian woman do is very likely. But mandated?
