I think the word you're looking for when you say religion is 'denomination' (I.E. the Baptist denomination), of which there are hundreds. The reason they can't all simply be united is that The Holy Bible can be interpreted in different ways, and some people will see one thing differently than others. You are right, though; all religions (Islam, Judaism, Christianity, what have you) separate the world, and I don't believe any of them are necessary. They are and have been useful coping devices for many people, though.

I'm not Christian but most of my family is. Having an impartial point-of-view, I can tell you Christianity - if not now - originally upheld the ideal that women were indeed inferior to men. Christian morals and the interpretations of the verses from which they are derived have evolved over the years to keep consistent with naturally evolving culture. Allow me to cite a scripture(King James Version):

([Ephesians 5:22] Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.)
([Eph. 5:23] For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body.)
([Eph. 5:24] Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so [let] the wives [be] to their own husbands in every thing.)

No matter how you want to twist meaning, it says there that women should submit to their husbands just as all Christians submit to the will of God. Not only that, but verse 24 restates that they should submit to them in EVERY THING, in EVERY WAY, just as Christians with God.

It's weird that someone griefed you for liking music they do. It's usually the opposite. I appreciate all kinds of music from every ethnicity and time, and whenever I meet someone who likes one of those 'off-the-beaten trail' genres, they're usually enthusiastic about finding someone they can relate to. My dad and I listen to classic rock together, and it has more than anything brought us closer. The only logical explanation I can give for someone not appreciating your liking it would be if they think you're just trying to follow a trend by doing it. I know I dislike it when people purposely seek out obscure or unpopular music and bands to sound like they're 'hardcore'.

What happens when you aren't married? Is it okay then?

Well... the war has little or nothing to do with religion, more like the tearing down of a regime and subsequent unrest. The terrorists killing people in Iraq now aren't really fighting or Islam, they just say they are to give themselves a divine excuse to kill and further their own malicious agendas. Many people have exploited peace-teaching religions to render the result they desire, be it power, fame or destruction, but that doesn't make the religion itself bad. Religious causes do all sorts of good things, like provide humanitary aid to remote parts of the world through missionary work or in their own neighborhoods. It's really the kind of people behind the religion, not the religion itself. If we didn't have religion those same people would use something else to justify their actions.
