Savannah C.MemberMost white women do this because they have had it impressed into their minds from an early age that they are to fear black men, and that black men are out to get them. I find that annoying and insulting, but remember, it is not all white people, just the ignorant ones.

Savannah C.MemberI’d say it is more of a social background thing; I grew up on red Kool-Aid and orange soda. I lived in a predominantly black, lower-class neighborhood, and in the summers when I visited my grandparents in West Virginia, it was PB&J sandwiches and Kool-Aid (though not with nearly as much sugar), so I think it’s as much where you grew up as it is what race you are.

Savannah C.Memberi can understand where you can be coming from in your question. Though i suppose i am happy to be white, one thing that I have a problem with is when people, other whites, will make racist comments in front of me, thinking i suppose i agree because i am white, or when people feel their are racist motives behind something i do because they are not white… things i think that many other races do not have to face, though i could be wrong in that belief.

Savannah C.MemberI grew up in an all black neighborhood, being the only white child, and though i now live in an area where there is virtually no diversity from white, i still feel more comfortable, say for instance, being approached by a large black man than a large white man… i know many people who are like you explained, that act ‘black’ in their clothes and music, probably more so than me, and yet are racist in other ways. I think it may have something to do with their upbringing, they are drawn to aspects of ‘black clture’ because it is different to them, and yet are suspicious of blacks for the same reason, they are ‘different’.
