In the United States, only one spouse is permitted under the law. However, in Islam, a man is allowed to have up to 4 wives, providing he can support all equally - this includes 4 homes, etc). So, if the Imam moves to an Islamic country, he can have 4 wives legally. Here in the States, we would only recognize the first marriage.

The Imam is correct but so are you. In Islam, a man may have up to four wives, as long as he is able to support all four equally (this often means seperate houses, or houses with seperate living areas for each wife, etc). HOWEVER, in the US, we are not a nation under Sharia (or Islamic law) and our laws require that only one wife may be had. Now when dignitaries from Muslim nations come ove rwith all their wives, there is some political issues that are dealt with, but in general, it is only a single spouse under the law.

I think the BIG issue you may not realize is this: Most girls your age in the not so distant past would be MARRIED by now. Remaining a virgin until marriage is easy when you marry soon after becoming a teen. In fact, a girl your age being unmarried would be a scandal a century or so ago. I mean, what is wrong with you that no man has taken you yet as a wife? ;-) As we marry later, have made advances in birth control, etc, the reasons for remaining a virgin have disappeared. The only reason now is because you want to. Whether this is for purely personal reasons or as a result of religious doctrine/dogma, it still becomes a personal choice.

Before you start making comments about military retirees who are 100% disabled, you may want to learn a little about how the military and VA classify disability. I am Active Duty. I herniated a disk in my lower back. I tried everything out there before surgery. Surgery took care of the loss of all feeling in one leg and the pain in the other. Will I get a disability rating for it? Yes. Why? Because the damage was directly caused by my service. Please remember that we do NOT get paid huge sums of money for our service. We get a livable pay check, but I know that if I were to get out, I would be able to make a hell of a lot more. Problem is, when I retire (I have over 18 years in so far), the years of abuse my body has taken from doing my job (How often have you been shot at while working?) will effect what work I will be able to do when I end my military career. THAT is why we recieve VA disability.

Depending on where they are from, the line is to show where the name is. For example, in Arabic, if one is very flowery, reading the name can be difficult, especially if you do not know where the bottom of the word is. The line marks the lower edge of the name, making reading easier. This gets carried over to English as it is habit. And the translation of the Arabic name for the Middle East region in English is...The Middle East.

I have used my pistol to stop a crime. I happened to come across an attempted rape at a rest stop. Having my pistol was the difference between attempted rape and rape. And my being hurt as well. The police were called and the offenders arrested (and convicted I was later told). While a firearm may be involved in accidents (as pointed out by others), if it is properly stored, all people in the house know how to handle a weapon (and if children, know not to touch it), they are no more dangerous than knives or matches in a house.

In the military, commissioned officers (2 Lt. through General, Ensign thru Admiral for Navy) are called sir or ma'am by those of a lower rank. Non-commissioned officers (NCOs or Petty Officers for Navy) are referred to by rank or (at least in the USAF) sir or ma'am by junior enlisted personnel. Some NCOs may object to being called sir or ma'am and state that it is because 'they earned their rank!' This is old school Officer/Enlisted rivalry. It is never wrong to refer to a military member by their correct rank, if you know it. If not, Mr. Smith or Mrs./Ms/Miss Smith is fine.

My only answer regarding the Hisotry months is this: I used to work in a Military Equal Opportunity office and part of our job was to organise a committee for each month. We were in an area with several large Tribal communittees and could only ever find a handful of people willing to volunteer, unlike with the other months. We did not care what background people had (Euro, Latino, Asian, etc), just that they were interested in being a part of the education of others. If no-one from the specific community can be botherd about educating others, many people presume that it must not be important.

The Middle East consists of North Africa and part of Asia. The people are of all ethnic descents, but Arabs and ethnic Jews are Semitic. The Iranians are Persian/Farsi, plus you have Assyrians, Chaldeans, Turks, etc. When you mix in the descendants of the troops that were left behind during the crusades, you end up with what is, all in all, a very mixed bag.
