From what I have read from ya'lls responses it seems that there is too much focus on race! To David, you can find a black girl that is motivated, hard working, etc. I, as well as all of my black female friends, are in college with exceptional grades, maintaining a job, and working to better ourselves. It seems that you are feeding into the whole idea that black people are lazy and prone to drama, while white, Asian, etc., are smart, hardworking, and civilized. If it is physical black attributes that you don't like then find what you do think is beautiful. I'm not prone to liking blond hair and very pale skin. I'm not racist but it's just not very appealing to me. You should stop using stereotypes to live your life and lead your relationships. The same thing to Carolyn, Christine, and Jocelyn.

Because n-i-g-g-a is more of a hello(even though that prolly isn't right in itself). N-i-g-g-e-r sounds more hateful, and was used on blacks back in the day.

I think its more of a swagger in black males then anything. Being black I do have a more of a swagger like I'm the finest person in the world. I do not no if other races do it, but blacks do it because we have a certain swagger about us.

Where I'm from that is definately not the case. I grab the seat to hold on because (the black side) of my family, as well as many many many of my black friends FLY. Maybe its just in your part of the country?

Sweetie you should not worry about what people think about you. Being from upper East TN there isn't as much racism as I have experienced elsewhere (East TN was one of the leaders in the abolition movement), but there are IDIOTS out there. One thing that I have learned is to laugh about it. I find it very amusing when people try so hard to dislike me without ever knowing me based on my skin color. Throw out the fact that my mother is white and I am just as much white as black. Another issue that I have had is people thinking that I am Hispanic/Latino. It never bothers me. I've had some people treat me negatively because they think that I am H/L and I just go right along with it. Their ignorance would not change whether they were accepting of me or not. Another reason I think you might be mistaken for black is because of how close you are to Memphis! Embrace yourself and don't worry about correcting people about who you are. If it wasn't your ethnicity it would be something else, even the pronunciation of your name. (This is something I deal with NUMEROUS times every day. It gets monotonous, but each person is different and they can't help not knowing.) Good luck.

I love riding with my windows down. I guess its sort of like why people put the top down on a convertible. Another reason is it saves gas. I don't really see the point in wasting my money/gas to have air blow in my face when I can just roll the window down and get it for free. If its is ridiculously hot I will turn my air on, but if its not past 80 or so I will leave my windows down.

One, its a comedy. We have to be able to laugh at ourselves. Second, black people are made fun of in movies all the time. The negative side to it, is its not always in a comedic way. What are some of the stereotypes that you have heard about black people? The girls have big butts and big hips and are always ready for some drama and won't take anything from anybody, guys are thugs that are well endowed and able to play sports well. What are some of the characteristics for both? Big lips, nappy hair, wide noses. Most movies play on these generalities because it gives the audience something that they can relate to and understand. When we watch stereotypes like that we know that there is far more too us, but can definately say, 'yea, ain't no black girl fitna let her man get away wit dat.' When we watch it for white people we can laugh and say, 'yea, they really will enunciate every single letter in a word.' We have to be able to laugh at ourselves, and recently it has just got to the point that the media would be accepting of black people making fun of white stereotypes.

I think you might have answered your own question. Ancestry. Its not so much the fact of not wanting to be called black, but wanting to be called what they truly are. People ask me alot if I am Mexican or if I am Puerto Rican, and well frankly the list goes on and on. I correct them and tell them that I am biracial. Not because I would be ashamed of being latino but because of what I am.
