I love to dance. In fact, after I married, I walked back down the aisle to ABBA’s ‘Dancing Queen’ because that was sort of a theme song for me. And no, ABBA is not considered rock music. I have to say that at first I thought your question was ridiculous, but I really appreciate that you had the guts to ask. A black friend of mine once asked me why white women always wore brown shoes, and was surprised when I told her I didn’t own a single brown pair.

Do black people not swim in the sea? It would never have occurred to me that they did not!

Check out ‘Losing the Race,’ a great book by a black linguist named James McWhorter. Among other things, he discusses Ebonics from a scholarly perspective. If you read the entire book, you might be surprised at his perspective.

Please be more specific, and give us an argument rather than an epithet. As a white American, I’ve been punished for breaking some laws, and rewarded for respecting others, just like people of every race and ethnicity in the United States. With respect to the law, it’s difficult for anyone to join the world, because as you probably know, the rules and laws that govern everybody else are vastly different among different countries. Please resist making your prejudices into a ‘majority thing’ by trivializing the experiences of minorities such as white farmers in Zimbabwe, Falun Gong practitioners in China, and other seriously oppressed citizens of the world.

Can’t answer your question unless you tell us what you mean. What is it that you think so many white folks (because you surely don’t know all of us!) brag about? By the way, didn’t that black basketball player who has HIV brag about how many women he had shagged?

My white neighbors hang their laundry in their front yard (OK, their side yard, but there’s no house so it’s in plain view), they park in the front, and they eat in front. It’s not a black thing; it’s a tacky thing.

It seems to me that black women appear much more comfortable with their bodies. While there’s a massive epidemic of eating disorders and bodily insecurity among white females, most of the black women I know exhibit a healthy attitude toward their weight, whether they be obese or rail-thin. Their shape doesn’t seem to define them, or their relationships with men. While I don’t advocate obesity or lack of attention to a healthy diet, I definitely think white women would be well served by adopting what appears to be black womens’ positive attitudes toward their bodies. My views on blacks aren’t related to the race, per se. There is plenty of white trash, black trash, and trash of all kinds. I think behavior, attitudes, etc. are more related to class and upbringing than anything else. I’ve worked with incompetent, uneducated blacks who are quick to cry racism any time they’re criticized or demoted. I’ve also worked with extremely educated, professional blacks who have a strong sense of personal responsibility and look down on those who ‘play the race card.’ Similarly, I’ve worked with plenty of lazy whites who avoid responsibility for their own failures (although they usually attribute them to something other than overt racism).
