Tim M.MemberIf you thought you were going to Heaven, and unbelievers would go to Hell, you’d try to convince as many people as possible (for their own sake as well as that of religion). Some people, however, will not be convinced, and their beliefs should be tolerated. Anyway, surely it’s better for someone to go around deluded in their belief that they are going to be ‘saved’, than live a miserable life with death and decay and NO ANSWERS to look forward to…

Tim M.MemberI feel it’s because clothes are a perceived label of identity. People don’t want to be stereotyped, so they challenge the judgment of others by not conforming. (And show how irrelevant clothes are to the person – you can’t judge a book by its cover!)

Tim M.MemberA baptism is YOUR pledge to God of your dedication to a particular faith. If you were too young to consider the consequences of your actions when you were baptised, then your baptism cannot be considered valid. As such, you are free to choose your own religion.

Tim M.MemberI see religious leaders as saying “ours is the only truth.” I hate the way some religions seem to be governed by rules rather than ethical discussion. It is generally believed that, for example, the Catholic Church has one opinion on homosexuality, rather than it being subject to individual interpretation. I can imagine a person who is totally committed to Catholicism yet thinks the reason for forbidding homosexuality was that sex outside marriage is immoral. If we allow gay people to marry, this problem is overcome. The problem is due to the preconceptions society had around/before Jesus’ time. When religious beliefs can be individual and “de-institutionalized,” it will be a more open and liberated world.

Tim M.MemberI’ve never heard of the British expression that “Everyone in America is middle class.” The whole notion of class is nonsense. To group people according to over-generalized, abstract concepts is absurd. To then call it “class” and have “upper” and “lower” categories is highly derogatory to anyone in the lower classes.

Tim M.MemberAgnostics do not “strongly doubt” the existence of God or show indifference, as previous answers have suggested. Agnostics believe that nothing is or can be known of the existence of God (i.e. I have absolutely no idea.”).
