Sarah-Jayne, I have no anti-British prejudice, even though I am part Irish. I am beyond that. I don’t find the term ‘Anglo’ to be offensive when it is used to refer to things and people Britsh. What I find offensive is the assumption that all white people in the United States are Anglo. It is considered offensive to refer to all Hispanics as Mexican, so why refer to all whites as Anglo? I was simply wondering if other white Americans felt the way that I do.

Christians believe God required the sacrifice because we are Christians. I cannot explain it beyond that. If we did not believe Jesus died for our sins, then we would not be Christians. And, yes, God does make the rules, but he is God, and not everything he does makes sense to everyone. In fact, if we were to understand God completely, then he would not be God.

When I show up on time to an engagement (and I mean ON-TIME) sometimes I am teased for running on German time, which implies that Germanic people have a predisposition for being punctual. I do not know if this is my heritage coming through (I am half-German) or not. To me, it is the polite thing to do. If someone thinks enough of me to invite me into their home or out on the town, the least I can do is show up when they ask me to. Showing up late without a good excuse is just plain rude.

I agree with A.C.C. up to the ‘Anglo’ part. Anglo means English specifically, whether it is a reference to the culture or the people. Being half Irish and half German, I would prefer to be called European rather than Anglo or Caucasian.

John, so the media admits that it chooses what to feed the public so as to influence popular opinion? Wow, I had suspected as such for a long time, but this is the first time I have heard someone in journalism come out and say it so openly. Is the notion of impartiality gone completely? Also, don’t you think that, by reporting the white on black crimes so much more that the black on white crimes, the media’s approach might lead to an increase in hate crimes committed by blacks againsts whites (get them before they get us)? By not reporting in a fair and impartial manner, the media may eventually be the primary cause for the deterioration of race relations. It sickens me, because I truly believe that we as humans need to get past skin color. Dr. King was right; we should be judged by the content of our character. Nothing else.

My wife and I also have separate checking accounts. That is just the way we feel we can manage our money best. I pay the bills with my checkbook, and she buys the groceries and other household necessities with hers. Like you, I have also experienced shock from other married people that we do our finances this way; but hey, we just feel comfortable doing that. I cannot understand why they would care, but apparently, they do.
