I'm about as deep in the South as you can get! There are a fair number of interacial couples in my small (VERY SMALL) Alabama town, mostly local people. I am proud to report that most people have no problem whatsoever with interacial couples. At my age (56) I have seen a great deal of change in the last 10 years. I'm sure some people notice more than others, and there may be more of this than in other parts of the country, I can't really say. But I think most people would be surprised at the degree of acceptance.

My understanding is that Independence Day celebrates the independence of our nation not any individual, group, or sub-group of the population.
