The true meaning of Dread locks came from the Rastafarians. It was a form of rebellion against the European standard of beauty (i.e. straight blond hair, fair skin, and blue eyes). Black hair naturally dreads. If we wash it regularly and don't comb it, it dreads. To the people of the West Indies, dreads are part of a strong culture. Much like it is customary for Christians to wear a cross. Dreads are a part of a religion, with deep and auspicious meanings associated with not only the wearing of dreads, but the lifestyle you must fallow before you are worthy to where dreads. I can go on and on about the Rastafarian faith, but if you are a true American, you guys always turn peoples' cultures into fashion, so it is a waste of time. Try not to be a typical American, one who has no time to learn about anything if it is not on TV.

I think it is mainly the US that has such a problem with mixed couples. I am from the West Indies, and we have people from all over the world that have no problem dating or marrying outside their 'race'. For example, my great grand father was from Canton China, and my great grand mother was a black Hispanic (they had 12 kids). I think the real melting pot is not in the US, but in the West Indies.

Suffering. Our faith has been tested more than whites. As you know, blacks have been through very difficult periods in history. But throughout all the suffering and pain, we still found the strength and courage to sing and praise God's name.
