Hilarious! And no, I don't think you're crazy for asking. I'm white, and no, I don't sit on public toilets ... I 'hover.' If I'm making dinner for me and my hubby, I do occasionally taste off the spoon, then put it back in the pot to stir. But if I'm entertaining guests, I do no such thing. Gross! In the morning, I smooch my hubby, closed-mouthed of course, lightly on the lips, but that's it. No one wants a big wet smooch first thing in the morning. Ick. As far as the soap, I use soap and a sponge and loofah to wash, and hubby uses soap and a wash cloth.

What do you mean by 'white privilege'? She has privileges, too. She's an American woman. You two may share more than you think. Maybe she'd like a new friend as much as you would.

Maybe it wasn't race-related? My hubby says 'Buddy' and 'Guy' alot. Maybe it's in the same sense? I can't imagine someone using the term 'boss' in a race-related manner. That would be rude. Have you asked him what he meant? I think I would do that.

Tonya, I'm not sure I understand your question. Maybe it's because I've not experienced the situations you described. I'm an educated white woman, proud to have studied (in a limited fashion in college) some of the amazing music/culture african-american artists have given this country. I speak of it when it music comes up in conversation, i.e., Howlin' Wolf, BB King, Hendrix, and more recently, Chris Thomas King. I'm not aware that any of my friends are afraid to speak about ebonics, R&B and rap. It could be that they know nothing of these things, so are not inclined to discuss it. Maybe people are afraid to sound ignorant so they don't discuss these things at all? Can you be more specific about your experiences?

Chrissy, I'm a white woman and am married to a white man. In my single days, I dated several black men and one Arab man. The problem you may be experiencing is a fear of being 'different'. Maybe the white men you've encountered are afraid to present you to their family and friends. You just never know what their peers and parents are like. My father is a die-hard biggot as is most of my family. Sometimes people are afraid to follow their heart, and focus instead on the views of peers. Sad, but true. Besides, would you want a man, white, black, latin or otherwise to not be able to follow his heart for fear of backlash? The ones that can't move past that aren't worth your time.
