I cannot say whether this is true in every case, but generally it seems that men and women have a very different way of shopping. Men tend to know exactly what it is they are looking for and will buy it once it is found. Women, on the other hand, seem to know the type of item, but prefer to wait until they can compare price or detail before making a decision. Ever notice that men will go into a shoe store and buy the first pair of shoes that suit their purpose, while women will try on many different shoes to select the one they like best? Again, this is more of a general rule of thumb, but it seems to hold true for the men and women I know.

I think your inference is correct. We live in a world of massive ignorance. Most people are only aware of the most obvious scientific, economic, religious, political, etc. information, and most of that comes from questionable sources. We assume that anyone with a good grasp of logic and information has to have learned how to find and process information. Some problem-solving ability usually comes with the package, and those skills are hard to come by without a college education. So in general, we assume that the intelligent and informed would have some kind of a degree. Of course, that is not always true, in either direction. I know plenty of people who never went to college and are extremely well-educated, and others with doctorates who seem to fail to grasp even the most obvious concepts.

Bravo! Finally, someone has addressed the role of the parents in the poor behavior and discipline of children today. While I would not go so far as to suggest that all parents have been negligent, certainly a number have. Ever notice how a number of these negligent parents are the same people who rebelled against authority in every possible way in the '60s and early '70s? Hmmm ... wonder if there is a connection there.

In the past, black people were typically directed into vocational tracks rather than college prep - if they were even given guidance at all. Now, the opportunities for black people have increased, and you can take whatever courses you like. Since this is a relatively recent change, non-blacks might find it different.
