JayaParticipantAre you an only child? I am, and for a while I felt the same way. Trust me, you’re better off being mature. Maybe right now you don’t fit in, but pretty soon, people are going to want to be near you because what you say is always right. I went through the exact same thing.

JayaParticipantWell… yes and no. I’m Indian, and in my society, we don’t care about caste. Basically, in urban middle class society, it doesn’t really matter. But in villages it can be kinda cruel. Similarly, teenagers and now adults can’t differentiate between castes, but senior citizens and people from old fashioned backgrounds know a lot about it. It’s against the law anyway, and no one’s allowed to practice, but a few orthodox families bar inter-caste marriages. It’s not like anyone’s untouchable like it used to be a hundred years ago, and my parents wouldn’t stop me from marrying anyone I wanted to. It’s there someplaces and not there in others.

JayaParticipantWow! I just read Meg’s reply, and though we’re from opposite ends of the globe, life is very much the same for teens here in India! Of course, I’m speaking from my end of the spectrum (urban middle class as opposed to the villages, where everything is SO different), but still. I love my family too, and have a bunch of friends who are extremely dear to me. We hang out at coffee shops too, and I also love… LOVE rock music. We don’t do drugs either (but could if we wanted to) and have boyfriends in very non-serious, immature yet fun relationships. i think with each generation, people across the world are getting more and more similar. Its a little tough to get a job at my age (16) although I would love the monetary independence. Here all you’re supposed to do is get on with your education. And you can’t really tell your parents about having boyfriends until you’re in college. Some elders may object. You just don’t talk about these things to your parents. They won’t hate you or anything, but we find it embarrassing. That’s why out here, having friends your own age is really, really important. But otherwise, things are very similar. I’d love it if you could contact me Emma, and thanks for showing an interest.

JayaParticipantI’d say it does exist, but only very rarely. What can you tell at first sight anyway? My guess would be that once in a blue moon a person prejudges someone for how he or she appears, and by pure chance turns out to be right. Call it love at first sight, or excellent judgement or whatever

JayaParticipantHello! Its all a matter of opinion isn’t it? I dont think anybody could ever look good wearing tight pants up to their belly-buttons. If you ask me, that’s just gross.
