When my hair gets too dry and I don't grease it up in time, these dry white flakes pop up all over my scalp. Normally they're just light brown flakes and I used to enjoy scratching them out of my head as a youngster before I learned proper hair care, and watch them fall onto the page of the book I was reading. Of course, this meant my hair needed washing. By the way, what color is a white person's dandruff, anyway?

Yeah, I had to deal with people like that when I was your age and younger, but you know what? Forget them and what they think--some ghetto folks are like that because they're young, immature, and of course, haven't got any common sense or manners and aren't happy unless they're starting mad drama/or major chaos. I would suggest just ignoring them, because apparently these kind of people think that if you don't act exactly like them, you aren't 'black' enough, and they might even be jealous because you have the guts to be exactly you are, and they don't. You also have to learn to pick your battles--if one of them gets all up in your face to the point where you feel that you have to defend yourself physically, then do what you feel you have to do. I'm not advocating violence here--honestly, I hate fighting myself and would just rather walk away instead. Anyway, just ignore them, because most of the time people like that will accost just to show off in front of their friends,or because they just wan't to be seen. Good luck (I'm a former nerd myself!)

Being a black woman, I'll admit that yeah, some of us are rude and have a lot of attitude - myself included, sometimes. Basically, some of the reasons for this are that historically, we have had to fight damn hard to get any respect in this society, and a lot of us have had to put up with a lot more stress, dealing with racism and sexism on a daily basis, plus always having white women shoved up in our faces as the ultimate beauty icon we can never measure up to, or some BS like that.

I have to admit, I get tired of having to deal with a lot of sisters' bad attitudes and rudeness myself, especially when it seems that they've had a bad day and just want to take their stress out on anybody who happens to be around.

A lot of black women (like myself) also tend to be a lot more upfront and straight to the point about what we expect from a person, instead of beating around the bush and trying to be coy and make nice all the time. Add to that all the ignorant, negative stereotypes that have been hung on us continually: that we're either whores or welfare queens living off the state, or that we're nothing but gold diggers or whatever. Don't most women generally ask a man if he's going to buy them something simply because it proves he cares?

I've met rude women of all colors. I think it's also because, traditionally, we've always had to be more independent and aggressive to make it because we were never put on a pedestal like white women and basically were taught to hate every damn thing about ourselves - our looks, our bodies, our hair, everything. For so long we had to take a back seat to everyone, and now that we've won many a hard-fought battle for equality, we're holding on to it with both hands and no longer stepping back to anybody. And if they don't like it, that's too damn bad.

Hmmm - I've been told I have a similar problem. I was told by those living with me that no matter how much I clean myself, I still smell. That pissed me off, because how can you still smell if you bathe 7 days a week? Anyway, it was suggested to me that I might need a colonic cleansing, because it seems as if the smell is coming from my pores, and I'm told it smells like the food I eat and the apartment I once lived in. So that's something you might want to look into, because you say nothing else is working. Also, there are sprays that you could just spray your clothes with - you can find tham in any drugstore, I think.

An interesting question. I'm a black woman and had to deal with that on a daily basis when I lived in the big D. In my experience, I've learned that if you just acknowledge the compliment by saying 'Thank you,' some guys will leave it at that and move on. However, I've had some men call me a bitch and tell me I ain't s*** just because I didn't want to be bothered with responding to them - particularly if he was just a bum asking for change, or some old, dried-up, sorry looking fool. If a brother goes off on you like that, just ignore him and keep on walking.

As for the mode of dress, if you're not comfortable wearing certain things because you don't want any more attention than you feel you can handle, then don't wear them. I understand that because I've been there, too. Unless you're in a dangerous area, there's nothing to be afraid of. Some brothers probably think that because you're a white girl that they can imtimidate you easily, but if you feel - and this goes for any man, period, regardless of race - that a man's violating your space, tell him to back up off you, and quick. Sure, he might get mad and call you a bitch, but that's HIS problem. If you feel that you have to stand your ground, do it - but in a tactful way. Don't go off completely on him unless he's being a real a**hole. Also, be careful who you go off on - you never know what kind of crazy fool you're dealing with. And last but not least - dress however you like!

Excuse me, Dave: For one thing, black folks don't have a claim on committing crimes or violence any more than anyone else on this planet. Furthermore, if you would do some research on the NAACP's history, you'd find it was created at a time - in the early 20th century - when white people could not only say whatever they wanted but commit virtually any kind of atrocity you can imagine against black people - hangings, killings, shootings - for often no other reason than the simple fact that they could get away with it and never suffer the consequences. They are not a racist organization, and their job is to watch out for discrimination toward black folks - which still goes on in this day and age, whether you want to believe it or not.

And as for the Nation of Islam, puh-lease. Minister Farrakhan was crucified in the media for years -and rightly so - for his anti-Jewish views. I find it funny now that in the past couple of years since he's toned down his rhetoric a great deal and has expressed more interest in working with Jewish organizations, the media has completely forgotten his existence.

And since when did only white people have a claim on being fair and honest? Try telling that to the people who worked for Enron and got robbed of all their life savings by their own bosses.

To B.V.: What other African-American celebrities with politically incorrect views are you talking about? Ali hasn't been spouting these views for years, and you can't even compare what he said with what Rocker said, because Ali had to fight against the stereotypes of what a black boxer was supposed to do in a much more racist time. Another thing: both the NAACP and the Nation Of Islam, even for their rhetoric, have never burned a cross in front of a white person's home, ran them out of their neighborhood or threatened to wipe them out. The Klan and other white supremacist groups are known for doing all these things, so why the hell haven't you acknowledged that fact?

Excuse me,Dave, but what you said about black folks is so ignorant, stupid, and thoughtless that I just had to respond. Seriously, what planet are you living on? White people always think that because they're the majority in this country that there is something wrong with anybody who dosen't look, act,or think like them, which is the view they have always had toward non-white folks. To B.V.: What other AA celebrities with politically incorrect views are you talking about?
