I'm with you 100% on this one, Rachel. I'd actually heard the pitcher/catcher thing from a Hispanic woman about her ex-(pitcher) husband, but she said it also applied to a lot of men in the Black community. I also once worked in a drug rehab when a number of the staff were also recovering addicts and some had done prison time because of their drug use. One of the male counselors admitted to having sex with oher men in prison but said he didn't consider it homosexual behavior because a) there weren't any women around to have sex with and, b) he was the 'pitcher and not the catcher.' I told him that, in my opinion, whether he was the 'pitcher' or the 'catcher' he was still playing 'baseball' all the same!

I don't think you should stop watching Seinfeld because of Michael Richards. I think it's appropriate to boycott or picket any stand-up gigs or public apologies becasue then you are targeting him specifically. However, Seinfeld was made long before we knew what a jerk he was and all of the other people in the cast or involved in its production shouldn't be subject to guilt by pre-association or penlized becasue of his actions. Many of those people benefit from (and some may depend on) money that they receive from the re-runs. It wouldn't be fair to punish those people because of what we've recently learned about Richards. I do, however, think it would be fair to boycott anyone or anything that he's involved with post-racist-rant. Everyone now knows who/what he really is and anyone who agrees to work on any projects with him or cast him in any roles deserves the same harsh treatment or cold shoulder that Richards does.

I heard once that it's like the glass half full/glass half empty thing. When women look in the mirror we focus on the negative. That is, we can have a flat belly, nice breasts, a shapely butt and a pretty face, but if there's one speck of cellulite on our thighs, that's all we see. It doesn't matter that the rest of the packageg is great, all we can see is the flaw. Men, on the other hand, apparently ignore the flaws and focus on the positive. If they've got nice biceps, all they see is their buff arms. Or they might be proud that they can still wear the same size pants they did in college - even though the pants now ride way down low on their hips because they won't stretch around their stomachs anymore.
