Fiona F.MemberYes, it’s true a shark eats fish and a lion hunts other animals, but the difference is vast between the methods used by other animals and the methods humans use to obtain their meat. Do you see lions domesticating cattle, clearing forests, pumping their meat source with hormones and dumping wastes down rivers? You say meat-eating is part of the natural food chain, while even this could be argued scientifically, there is certainly nothing natural about the method we use to obtain our meat. I will bet that if humans had to hunt their own meat, more than half of the meat-eaters now would convert to vegetarianism. I’ve read several scholarly articles from Nature and Science on the debate on whether humans were meant to be carnivores or whether it’s a lifestyle choice. Many cultures subsist on a vegetarian diet and live much healthier lives than those on meat-based diets. I don’t expect anyone to convert to vegetarianism, it is as much as asking someone to change their faith, but I think it’s important for people to at least be aware of their role (positive and negative) on the so-called food chain. Anyway, to get back to the main point of this topic. I only pointed out meat-eating to show the originator of the topic some reasons why Chinese men or any other people would do things that seem obviously destructive to nature. It is due to ignorance and lack of conviction to change even when valid alternatives are presented to them. For them, it is as hard to change their ways as it is for us to change ours. At least we can find some solace in the fact that there are laws in place to protect the endangered species now.

Fiona F.MemberYour question begs a bigger question: Why do human beings everywhere feel their needs (medical, dietary, personal or otherwise) supercede the needs of the environment and other species? I think the answer to your question is ignorance and/or lack of concern. For example, if you are a meat-eater, I would ask you a similar question: Why would you eat meat knowing that acres and acres of rain forests have to be cleared for cattle to graze? Why would you eat meat knowing that animal wastes pollute our waters? Why would you eat another sentient being? Some people don’t know the consequences of their choices, or they do but just don’t care.

Fiona F.MemberI can tell you for a fact most slum areas in America are occupied by whites, not blacks. Another fact is that Allentown, where you live, became a depressed area because of a variety of reasons, none of which have to do with blacks. It’s people like you who perpetuate stereotypes that sustain racism.

Fiona F.MemberWhy would you join a convent if you’re not religious?

Fiona F.MemberFirst, I don’t see how this is a black/white thing. If a white family moved in and was causing the same ‘trouble’ for your friend, your friend would be just as angry. Or would he be? Would he be more tolerant if it were a white family who did the same thing? If he would be more tolerant, then your friend is racist and needs to deal with that first. If he would be just as angry whether the person is black or white, then what does this have to do with race? When your friend walks over to the other person’s house, how did he approach the subject? Did he walk over with the attitude, ‘Damn those loud black folks. They don’t belong in this white neighborhood’? You’d be surprised at how hidden, gut feelings can manifest themselves in a person’s speech. If you want to generalize, I can make the statement that white people think they make the rules and everyone should just follow. They think clotheslines and vegetable gardens in the back yard are ‘low class.’ Rather than calling it upscale, I would call it uptight.

Fiona F.MemberMy mother passed away two years ago. I would have been a little uneasy no matter what, if my father started dating again, but I would have accepted it because I know that my father has a lot of time ahead of him and I don’t want him to be alone. However, with all that being said, I think it is especially important that he finds a partner, someone who can share with him financially, domestically, and intellectually. She doesn’t have to be 50 years old, but she should be a woman, not a girl. It has been quite some time since I posted the original post and I have seen that this girl is immature and she has ulterior motives. She is an illegal immigrant from China who wants her Green Card. She told my sisters directly. This is not the only reason but her other reasons are just as bad. We think she is looking for a father figure and my father is looking for someone to take care of since all of us are out of the home. The sad thing is, my father has to see all this for himself and he doesn’t.

Fiona F.MemberAsian people who grew up with Asian people and live in Asian probably do not think they have slanty eyes. They probably think that Caucasians eyes have ’round’ eyes. So, then the question becomes why do Caucasians have round eyes, there seems to no basis for this. Eyes are eyes. If an alien came to Earth and never saw a human before, it would not think that our eyes look any different from one another, it would just think that we all have the same visual sensory organs on our heads. It’s because we are conditioned to think about our differences rather than our similarities that we (or you, I should say) are so concerned about tiny differences such as the shape of our eyes. It’s just like asking why do Asian people have black hair, there seems to no basis for this. Or why do Aryans have blond hair, blue eyes, there seems to no basis for this.
