ErinJParticipantIt all depends on a person’s personal preference. The term “bisexual” describes a person who feels sexually attracted to both males and females–which sex they like better, which they find more attractive, etc. is all a matter of personal preference. Personally, I find girl-girl porn more attractive and when watching hetero (straight) porn, I find the girl more attractive. But that’s just my personal opinion. 🙂

ErinJParticipantYou can’t change your sexual orientation. It’s something you’re born with, like your eye or hair color or skin color. If you’re feeling uncomfortable, maybe you can try contacting an LGBTQA resource center near you. They can set you up with some information and introduce you to some new people.

ErinJParticipantThere is a difference between sexual attraction and gender identity. In our society, it is thought that one can be ONLY male or ONLY female. As we learn more and more about gender identity and intersex people, we’re learning that this is not so. A female who acts “manly” or a male who acts “womanly” is simply expressing their gender identity as they see fit.

ErinJParticipantBeing gay isn’t a preference, it’s a reality like red hair or green eyes. Feeling discrimination or being “shunned” would depend completely on an individual’s personal experience, but there are many policies of discrimination in America that make LGBTQA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Allied) people feel unwelcome or uncomfortable. Examples include the prohibition on same-sex marriage, Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and sexual orientation not being included in many company and housing policies of non-discrimination. It also doesn’t help that many groups in the country are calling LGBTQA people “perverts” and making up lies about them–I’d say overall, it is definitely true that LGBTQA people feel “shunned” or discriminated against in this country.

ErinJParticipantI think any consenting adult who wants to get married should be able to regardless of sex. It’s a right afforded to everyone in this country except same-sex couples, and marriage has never been defined as “one man, one woman” in this country. We are a nation of separation and church and state, and on a civil, secular level, it is unconstitutional to deny rights based on sexual orientation.

ErinJParticipantIn the English language, phrases stick. One might often hear people say “big red balloon” whereas “red big balloon” might not be as popular–the same is true in this case. “Nice Jewish boy/girl” is a phrase that has stuck, usually because of the stereotype of Jewish parents wanting their Jewish children to marry within the Jewish “family.” We are not an ethnicity because there are Jews of all ethnicities, but are a people or a nation or a family as well as a religion.
