I was an infantryman in the Marine Corps and as a matter of course spent long periods outside. In the infantry you become very close to your squadmates, regardless of race, and therefore we talked about everything together. I used to hear my fellow Marines who happened to be black say that the white Marines smelled like wet dogs when we were out in the rain. We never took offense to what our brother Marines told us and actually thought it was quite funny. We just used to come back and tell them we thought they smelled funky, too. But then again, we were very close and would and did give our lives fighting for each other. As far as smelling like a wet dog, I imagine I did, or worse, but as far as I was concerned it wasn’t offensive and was probably a kind description of the way we smelled!

That is about the most ignorant statement I have heard in awhile your lack of education is evident in your statement.

As a police officer I see the aftermath of many assaults. It is definitely better in my opinion to be cautious and survive, than to be nieve or politicaly correct and become a victim. It also may have to do with the area the people are in when these encounters take place such as high crime areas.
