DavidMemberOn October 16, 2000, I posted the original question for this topic. Now, almost 2 years later, I’m back, and guess what? I’m getting married! Juliet and I are very much in love, and our wedding is August 31, 2002. Life, in its up-and-downs and cycles, is a strange, fascinating thing… By the way, she is a ‘white girl’ and is more comfortable with me than I am sometimes with myself. I love her more than anything. Good luck everyone. There is happiness out there.

DavidMemberI can’t speak for the Hispanic end of this question, but as an Asian-American man, I have used personal ads before, both in newspapers and on the internet. I have stopped doing so. The reason is that I rarely get responses, and when I do, it is from women who are settling for an Asian man; at least, that reality becomes clear after one or two dates. My experience might be restricted to my area here in the Midwest, where Asians are generally not looked upon favorably. But I believe that other Asian men have had similar experiences and, therefore, no longer bother with personal ads.

The broadcast industry (perhaps all of American visual media) is very focused on image and appeal. Of course, sex appeal permeates everything these days. This friend of mine was always wearing a full canvas of make-up, even when we were in night school together! She explained that broadcast, like Hollywood and like any other tv network, manipulates visual appeal for those great ratings. So you put on-the-air the most attractive, charismatic people that you can find. That means…hunky gentlemen and thin attractive women…NOT men who have stereotypically been downgraded as second-class citizens (such as Asian men). Where are the Asian-Indian male broadcasters? Same rationale. The media is biased because we, ourselves, are biased. It’s our fault.

DavidMemberOther phrases I have heard are the following: (1) ‘this and that’; (2) ‘she goes / he goes’ (instead of she said / he said); (3) ‘what’s up?’ (which has mutated from ‘wassup’ to the now infamous ‘wazzuuup!’); (4) ‘yada, yada, yada’ (ala the TV sit-com ‘Seinfeld’); (5) ‘whatever’ (which is now more like ‘what..everrrr!’); (6) ‘oh please’ (which is now ‘oh pllleeease!’). It seems like most of this new city lingo is just a rhythmic twist or spin on a prior phrase, usually influenced by popular culture.

For me, it is because I appreciate a woman who grooms, very much like she would groom her arm-pit hairs and leg hairs. The absence of too much hair allows better cunnilingus. I also see trimming as another way to please your partner, because you are grooming for his pleasure as well as yours. After all, guys wear thongs if a woman requests, and she wears lungerie to his liking. It is nice to know that she put effort and time into presenting herself, something which is almost always appreciated. I, myself, trim, and she does appreciate it in the same way that a man appreciates a trimmed woman.

DavidMemberNo way. I’m Asian-American (Chinese), and although I cannot speak for him, I can tell you that that certainly is not true for me. Is he a Vietnamese national or a person born and raised in the States?

DavidMemberYour dream man sounds like someone out of a harlequin romance novel or a secret agent-James Bond type — or maybe just Antonio Banderas (romantic, macho, Spanish guy). Basically, your preference is just another product of media-images from TV and Hollywood. Yes, and I like Pamela Lee Anderson.
