Perhaps you have trouble differentiating between a man and a woman having a loving, sexual relationship, and a man who rapes women, molests little girls, females dogs, a female corpse, etc. Most of the world seems to understand the difference between consenting and non-consenting relationships, though, and have taken the time to find out that heterosexuals and homosexuals aren't all that different.

They didn't take a simple vote. In 1973, the American Psychiatric Association declared it was not a mental illness after 35 years of research that found that "Homosexuality per se implies no impairment in judgment, stability, reliability or general social and vocational capabilities." The American Psychological Association agreed in 1975. Recently the American Psychological Association has been accused of supporting child sexual abuse. The APA came out with an official statement to the contrary. I suggest that if you are going to make the insulting claims that you are, Normand, that you take the time to research what you are being told, and to back it up with fact.

If you think about it, the condemnation rarely makes sense:

    1. In the United States, many gays and lesbians are asking to be able to wed legally, and I have heard many who oppose it say that gays are promiscuous. They oppose both promiscuity, and monogamous gays. If all gays were promiscuous, though, would we even be discussing gay marriages?

    2. Cheers was in the Nielson top 10 for nine years. The main character, Sam, slept with hundreds of women. Watchers thought of it as cute and funny. Wilt Chamberlain claims to have slept with 10,000 women. Rather than question his morals, the public mostly questioned whether he was lying. Many guys join bands to "get women." Girls are told that "teenage boys only have one thing on their mind." We have words for men who have many female sex partners - player, stud, stallion, ladies' man, Romeo, Casanova, etc. All are words that elevate men's status. When a man does this, we say, "Boys will be boys." Why is this behavior OK for heterosexuals?

    3. While AIDS mostly affected gays, heterosexuals' sexually transmitted diseases are even more common. So does that mean all heterosexuals are promiscuous?

I have often wondered this myself. It is like a man kicking his dog for years, and one day, the dog biting the man on the leg, and the man saying, 'How could this happen?' When I was in school, a few star athletes nominated a homely girl with slight retardation for Homecoming Queen as a joke. (Yes, stories like Carrie actually happen.) I remember watching cheerleaders ask a painfully shy girl if she was a lesbian, and laughing at her. One of my friends told me his gym coach even led the taunting. If we admit that most humans would break down with this kind of constant harrassment, we must also admit that one of the ways they break down is to kill themselves, and accept some accountability. There have been numerous movies about it: The Breakfast Club, Heathers, Carrie, Revenge of the Nerds, Welcome Back Roxy Carmichael. A review of Welcome to the Dollhouse said that it was relentlessly cruel and a bad film because it didn't let the viewer off the hook. It was, in other words, what some people go through in real life. Is it really a serious problem?
