ClayMemberPicking and choosing what you want out of the Bible is something everyone does. It’s wrong in every case, not just some cases, because in God’s eye sin is sin. God doesn’t differentiate and doesn’t play favorites. In the Bible, there are many references made to sexual impurity. In Romans, Paul discusses sexual impurity and how men should not lay with men. I’m not a big-time authority on this, but I would assume that because it says man should not lay with man, that also means woman should not lay with woman. Now, I will say that in my opinion God doesn’t view lesbianism or gay sex as any more or less of a sin than he does sexual promiscuity of the ‘straight’ variety. As I said, people pick and choose what they want out of the Bible, and many times they feel as if their sin is not as bad as someone else’s because it is THEIR sin. I don’t want to be your judge, because it also says in the Bible that one should not judge another. It says that in Romans, I believe. But, I will say that homosexuality in the eyes of God is wrong, just as many common practices of sexual and spiritual impurity are wrong. Pray for strength and understanding and read many of Paul’s letters he wrote from prison. Especially Romans, it’s like the Bible compressed.

ClayMemberIn my opinion people turn away from religion because it’s the easy thing to do. Atheist will argue with this, but ask yourself what’s easier… believe in one God that created the universe and man in his own image. Or believe that it all happened randomly by some quirk of cosmic fate. People expect God to help them. They can’t understand why God let’s children die in car accidents and other horrific events. People don’t understand the concept of free will and what an important part it played in the Bible. God put the world in motion and although He does interact from time to time, He allows people to make there own decisions. If He did play a role in our everyday lives, that would turn us into robots and that’s not what God intended at all. God allows his children to make there own decisions. Many times, they make the wrong decisions and end up hurting themselves or others. They make those decisions because they give in to the temptations that exist, meaning sexual impurity, alcoholism, abuse, etc. I agree, organized religion is way off base many times. It preaches to the choir and fails to walk among the masses, instead throwing stones. That is another reason why people have a hard time coming to God. Why would someone want to come to a God whose children spend the day telling them what horrible people they are. Faith is tough and no matter what concrete proof people look for, it doesn’t exist. You have to believe in God based on faith and many people just can’t. It’s too bad. I hope I’m not cut up for this post because this is an open forum. I will say one thing though, if you believe there is no God you better hope that you’re right.

ClayMemberFirst of all, your question suggests that you are scared of death because you are asking to be guaranteed a place in heaven. You’re not alone in this. Many people, including me wonder if they have a place in heaven. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins, but sometimes I wonder if doubts that creep in will cause me to lose favor in God’s eyes. It’s a pretty common worry for a lot of people. It says in the Bible that to have eternal life you should simply believe that Jesus is the son of God and he was sent to Earth to wash you of your sins. There isn’t any Magic Bullet to get around that. Believe in Jesus and try to live a life God would be proud of and there you go. Atheist will argue that someone that does good deeds and lives a moral life should get into heaven even though he or she doesn’t believe in Jesus. I don’t have the answer to why it’s that way and neither does anyone else so don’t go looking for it. People look for proof of Jesus’ existence and his diety all the time though and some of that has to be accepted on faith. If you get a chance though, read ‘The Case for Christ.’ It’s written by a former atheist who searches for tangible evidence to support Jesus’s existence, His death and His resurrection. Read that, it helped me in my faith. One more thing, Jesus’ actual existence as a person is recognized by ever major religion… Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buhdists… they all accepted He lived they just don’t accept that He was the son of God. Atheists will try to take the intellectual high ground and say God and religion were put in place to control people. That’s fine if they believe that, but I believe in Jesus and I pray for those who don’t.

ClayMemberAs a Christian, I was shocked to find out that many Christian traditions are based on pagan ritual. I would like to know which traditions you are referring to. Could you please back that up with something more than just many. Thanks.
