The question shouldn't be where and how but WHY? That said: in the Atlanta area, most tattoo parlors have body piercing facilites, too. But be very careful and make sure the instruments are clean. I'd certainly hate to get an infection THERE.

A stereotype is a stereotype, regardless of whether it is a positive or negative one. Either way, they are misleading, detrimental and just plain incorrect. Using your example, how would a person of Italian descent feel if he/she wasn't a talented musician? Wouldn't it tend to make that person feel less worthy than other Italians? Does the stereotype mean Italians aren't good at anything but music? The comment may not be meant to be derogatory, but unfortunately may have that effect.

A philosopher once said, "If God did not exist, it would be necessary for man to invent Him." I think that says a lot. There is no proof whatsoever that any higher being or God exists. However, I have never seen a black hole in space or the tiniest particle of an atom (or even an atom for that matter), but I believe these things exist. It's the same for religion. It's whatever you choose to believe and what makes you comfortable and gets you through the rough times of your life. Do what feels right for you.

I have lived in various areas of the country and have found that people all over treat their animals about the same. Either they treat them like the animals they are or they treat them like people - clothing, etc. Many men in the South hunt and have hunting dogs, which are treated much differently than pets. Maybe this has something to do with the perception.

Children behave the way they are raised - even as adults. If children are given everything and never have to give anything back, they continue to give nothing back as adults. If children are taught the joy of giving, they continue to give as adults. If children are raised by mean-spirited parents, when the parent are old and need their children, their children will respond in a mean-spirited way. You get what you give.

You didn't mention your mother. Is she still alive? If she has died recently, perhaps you feel your father is not giving your mother the respect she deserves by waiting longer to be involved with someone. If your mother is still alive, are your parents divorced, or is this an affair? How does your mother feel about it? Does she express her views to you? She could be influencing how you feel, due to loyalty to your mom. Is your father wealthy? If so, are you worried that the young woman is a gold-digger? Perhaps you what you feel is sibling rivalry. Try to get to know her before you ake any final decisions on whether she's right for your dad. Remember that everyone has the right to be happy and your father is no exception.

Instead of wondering why black men and white women date each other, maybe we should be grateful that these folks don't allow stereotypes and prejudice determine who they date. My granddaughter's first boyfriend (she was 6 at the time) was black. I was glad to see that she didn't care they weren't of the same race. She just thought he was a nice boy. By the way, she has since decided boys have cooties - so she doesn't like any boys now.

You are correct in your assumptions that Southern women tend to be more "male centered" than the rest of the country. I think this is a throw-back to the days of the steel magnolias. The women appear so helpless and in need of a man to take care of them, when in fact, they usually end up running the man and the marriage. In fact, many of them begin to call themselves by their husband's name. For example: Mrs. John Doe, as opposed to Mrs. Jane Doe. That surprised me more than anything when I first came to the South. Perfect hair, perfect makeup, perfect husband, perfect children, perfect house ... the only thing is, it's really stressful being this perfect, and it really wears on them. Most of the older ones are tired and grumpy and very unforgiving of anyone not as perfect as they feel they are.

I have always thought most gay men and lesbians are homosexual because of genetics - just like eye color, height, weight, etc. I think someday this will come to be proven true. It sounds like this research may be right on the money. However, I don't think homosexuals need to be 'cured' of anything. Not any more than blue-eyed people need to be cured of their blue-eyedness. The good news: Someday every gene will be thoroughly mapped, and then the really important work can begin: Cures for cancer, alzheimers, MS, Lou Gehrig disease, muscular dystrophy and all the other real genetic disorders that make human life miserable.
